The data from this study provided very little support for the "Batho Pele" principles and highlighted a clear need for CAMHS strengthening in the Western Cape, and in South Africa as a whole. Designers of combination HIV prevention interventions need to address the barriers to participation so that AGYW can attend without risking their safety and compromising their family, childcare and schooling responsibilities.
