  • Geographic prioritisation in Kenya and Uganda

Open Access•Ligia Paina, Daniela C Rodríguez et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2023

Introduction Donor transition for HIV/AIDS programmes remains sensitive, marking a significant shift away from the traditional investment model of large-scale, vertical investments to control the epidemic and achieve rapid scaling-up of services. In late 2015, the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) headquarters instructed their country missions to implement ‘geographic prioritisation’ (GP), whereby PEPFAR investment…

  • Exploring perceived effects from loss of Pepfar support for outreach in Kenya and Uganda

Open Access•Mary Qiu, Ligia Paina et al.•ARTICLE•Globalization and Health•2021

INTRODUCTION: In 2015, the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief undertook policy shifts to increase efficiencies in its programming, including transitioning HIV/AIDS funding away from low burden areas. We examine the impact of these changes on HIV outreach in Kenya and Uganda. METHODS: Qualitative data collection was conducted as a part of a broader mixed-methods evaluation. Two rounds of facility-level case studies and national-level inter…

  • The Chicken Coup

    Caroline Mackenzie•ARTICLE•Small Axe A Caribbean Journal of…•2019

Poking fun at the traditional American style of hard-boiled crime fiction, this satirical piece follows two misogynistic bounty hunters through the Trinidadian rainforest as they track down the people responsible for humiliating a ruthless mogul of the poultry industry. But the bounty hunters get more than they bargained for when they finally come across the culprits-they discover that now the chickens abused by the poultry mogul are fighting bac…

  • Conflict, Territory and the Frontier Economy

    Open Access•Anne Montenach, Caroline Mackenzie•TRANSLATOR•ARTICLE•Revue de géographie alpine•2016•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 8

This article takes up the theme of “mountains and conflict” with a review of smuggling in the Dauphiné Alps during the 18th century. As a “foreign” and border province, smuggling was rife in Dauphiné and practised by a variety of inhabitants. For some, it was part of the daily strategy for survival, for others their normal commercial practice, while for states it became a bargaining chip in negotiations over trade wars. Paradoxically, the frontie…

  • Integrating Family Planning Promotion into the Work of Environmental Volunteers

Theresa Hoke, Theresa H Hoke et al.•ARTICLE•International Perspectives on…•2015

Voluntary use of family planning is instrumental to the health and social well-being of women, families and communities.Although contraceptive use in Sub-Saharan Africa is increasing, unmet need for family planning remains high. Even within countries that have achieved increases in contraceptive prevalence, use remains low among some population subgroups. Contraceptive prevalence is generally lower in rural areas than in cities, and is consistent…

  • Confessions of a Hindu-Catholic Artist

    Caroline Mackenzie•ARTICLE•Religion and the Arts•2008

During my first twelve years in India I studied Hindu art and philosophy, encountering "inculturated" Catholic Christianity for the first time. When I returned to the United Kingdom, I was struck by a manifest separation between the dry, orderly church, and the imaginative world of "New Age" networks such as Dances of Universal Peace. In 1999 I received a major commission to re-design a church in Wales. This opening allowed me to use art as a mea…
