  • Does Adolescent Affect Impact Adult Social Integration? Evidence from the British 1946 Birth Cohort

    Open Access•Stephani L Hatch, Michael Wadsworth et al.•ARTICLE•Sociology•2008•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 27

Using data from the MRC National Survey of Health and Development (the British 1946 birth cohort), we take a life course approach with a sociology of mental health framework to examine the relationship between adolescent affect and adult social integration. The results suggest that being observed as anxious or sad in adolescence has a long-term effect on adult social integration. These associations are not explained by adult mental health or socio…

  • The role of the menopause in women's experiences of the 'change of life

    Open Access•Karen Ballard, Karen D Ballard et al.•ARTICLE•Sociology of Health & Illness•2001•Citada por: 13

Over the course of the 20th century, the menopause came to be viewed amongst the medical profession as a hormone deficiency state. This formulation of the menopause as a physiological and biochemical change, whilst in some ways appropriate, understates the importance of the social context in which the menopause is experienced. Drawing on women's accounts of the menopause, as described in the comments section of a longitudinal national survey, thi…
