Return on investment from service transformation for young people experiencing mental health problems
Complex interventions such as AOM aim to shift care "upstream": away from acute, emergency, hospital and specialist services and toward community-based programming which is more easily accessible, often more appropriate for early-stage presentations, and more resource-efficient. Carrying out economic evaluations of such interventions is challenging given the constraints of available data and health system organization. Nonetheless, such analyses …
Cost-effectiveness of methadone maintenance treatment for HIV-positive drug users in Vietnam
Methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) is efficacious in reducing drug use that may improve HIV/AIDS care and treatment outcomes. This study evaluated the incremental cost-effectiveness of MMT for HIV-positive drug users from the perspective of health service providers. A sample of 370 HIV-positive drug users (age: mean ± SD: 29.5 ± 5.9 years; 95.7% male) taking MMT in multi-sites was assessed at baseline, three, six and nine months. Costs of MMT …
The cost-effectiveness and budget impact of Vietnam's methadone maintenance treatment programme in HIV prevention and treatment among injection drug users
We analysed the cost-effectiveness and budget impact of the methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) programme in HIV prevention and treatment among injection drug users (DUs) in Vietnam. The costs and health outcomes of providing MMT for opioid-dependent DUs versus non-MMT were estimated using a decision analytical model. Probabilistic sensitivity analysis using Monte Carlo simulation was conducted to justify uncertainties of model parameters simul…
Changes in drug use are associated with health-related quality of life improvements among methadone maintenance patients with HIV/Aids
Measurement challenges of informal caregiving
Models of funding and reimbursement in health care
What is the best way to pay providers to deliver health services? The research evidence strongly suggests that there is no single answer; rather, one must consider the incentives and disincentives inherent in alternative health‐care funding models. This article suggests a conceptual framework for categorizing payment mechanisms that highlights different policy options and their associated tradeoffs. It concentrates on the following: distinctions …
Public Investment in Providing Information for Chronic Disease Prevention for Adults in Alberta
Economic Evaluation for Assistive Technology Policy Decisions
Economic evaluation analysis comprises a set of tools that are used to assess alternative health technologies, including assistive technologies. Health technology assessment is a set of concepts that are used to evaluate technologies and to make policy recommendations. This article presents an exposition of each of these areas: the tools that are used to conduct an economic evaluation, how these tools fit in to the larger policy-related analysis …
Responsiveness of the EuroQol in breast cancer patients undergoing high dose chemotherapy
Inter-Provincial Variation in Government Drug Formularies
Excess Costs of Diabetes in the Aboriginal Population of Manitoba, Canada
Cost Effectiveness of Streetworks’ Needle Exchange Program of Edmonton
Managerial objectives of symphony orchestras
This paper considers the managerial objectives of not‐for‐profit symphony orchestras in the United States. Using data compiled by the American Symphony Orchestra League, an empirical analysis reveals dual attendance (quantity) and performance quality concerns for Major and Urban Community orchestras; and quality‐only concerns for Metropolitan orchestras.
