James Winchester’s clay pipe factory
Excavations in advance of redevelopment in two areas either side of Old Bread Street, Bristol, revealed remains dating from the eighteenth century including those of three clay tobacco pipe kilns and other structural remains. An assemblage of clay tobacco pipes and kiln furniture was also recovered amongst other finds. The structural remains are described and the development of the site is examined. A delftware commemorative plate from Glassfields, Bristol
An archaeological excavation undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology at Glassfields, Old Bread Street, Bristol in 2016–2017 revealed a cesspit/cistern, which produced an interesting finds assemblage that included fragments of a tin-glazed plate. The plate was decorated with a scene of a smoking glass cone furnace in a landscape of sponged trees and fences. Possible glass blowing tools are depicted on the brim. A Bronze Age Round Barrow Cemetery, Pit Alignments, Iron Age Burials, Iron Age Copper Working, and Later Activity at Four Crosses, Llandysilio, Powys
Excavation undertaken at the Upper Severn valley round barrow cemetery at Four Crosses, Llandysilio, Powys, between 2004 and 2006 has increased the known barrows and ring ditches to some twenty-seven monuments within this complex, and revealed additional burials. Based on limited dating evidence, and the data from earlier excavations, the majority of the barrows are thought to be constructed in the Bronze Age. The barrows are considered part of a…

The Hinxton Rings – A Late Iron Age Cemetery at Hinxton, Cambridgeshire, with a Reconsideration of Northern Aylesford-Swarling distributions
The excavation of a 1st century BC cremation cemetery having ring-ditch surrounded interments is reported. One of its two richly accompanied burials included an unparalleled drapery-cast stud/knob – an extraordinary object found within a cemetery with uniquely delineated graves. Family factors related to obesity in Mexican-American and Anglo preschool children
The relationship between family factors and obesity in Mexican-American and Anglo preschool children was investigated. The sample consisted of 377 mothers and their children; 189 were Mexican Americans and 188 were Anglos. Results indicated that Mexican-American children were heavier and were more likely to live in single parent families than Anglo children. Mothers of Mexican-American children were more overweight, were less educated, and had lo…
Prehistoric and Early Medieval Activity on Danby Rigg, North Yorkshire
Excavation and survey at Danby Rigg, North Yorkshire, produced evidence of activity on the site ranging from the Early Bronze Age to the Viking period. Re-excavation of a ring-cairn confirmed the account of J.C. Atkinson and enabled early bronze age radiocarbon dates to be obtained, but produced no further finds. A summary account of excavations by the Scarborough Archaeological Society on further early bronze age monuments is given. Survey in th…
