Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Content on Television
Two annual content analyses of programming from the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 television seasons (n = 1,276 and 1,439 programs, respectively) were conducted to assess the presence of behaviors and verbal messages related to the sexuality of gays, lesbians, and bisexuals. Sexual content associated with nonheterosexuals was found in about 15% of programs overall; however, rates of occurrence within episodes were low. Of 14 genres, only movies and var…

Risk of school failure as an early indicator of other health risk behaviour in American high school students
The present study assesses the value of educational risk factors as indicators of other risk behaviour in the adolescent age group. The authors analyzed anonymous questionnaire data from 6224 school-based adolescents collected in a Midwest state in the US in 1989. The adverse effects of legislation to require parental involvement in consent for adolescent abortion as reported in the literature are summarized in response to an essay supporting such legislation. First it is unclear whether parental involvement means notification participation in the decision or consent. Probably most minors simply want to have the procedure without their parents knowledge.
