The Impact of Immigration on Social Trust of Natives
This paper examines the impact of immigration on natives' social trust in the context of China's mass internal migration. Combining individual-level information on social trust and county-level information on immigration rate, we employ the instrumental variable strategy and find that immigration has a significant negative impact on trust among native residents. The impact of immigration on trust is more salient for trust in weak ties than trust …

Political Conflict and Development Dynamics
As a multi-faceted socio-political movement in twentieth-century China, the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) witnessed conflict and social upheaval. This paper investigates its economic legacies, exploiting geographic variation in revolutionary intensity, measured by the number of resulting deaths. Using a newly assembled county-level panel dataset over five decades, we find worse-affected areas performed slightly better at baseline, but were slow…
Surface net heat flux estimated from drifter observations
The ocean mixed layer temperature equation is used to estimate the surface net heat flux from drifter measurements. The net heat flux is determined for both the climatologic and tropical cyclone (TC) conditions. The spatial distributions of the drifter-derived heat fluxes under both the two conditions are similar to those derived from satellite observations. However, the drifter-derived climatologic heat flux appears to be weaker in magnitude tha…
