  • Too Much, too Indigestible, too Fast’? The Decades of Struggle for Abortion Law Reform in Northern Ireland

    Open Access•Sally Sheldon, Jane O’neill et al.•ARTICLE•Modern Law Review•2020•Citada por: 2

In July 2019, the UK Parliament voted by an overwhelming majority for fundamental reform of Northern Ireland's archaic abortion laws. Regulations implementing the reform came into effect on 25 March 2020. Drawing on extensive archival resources and a small number of interviews, we locate this extraordinary political moment in a broader historical context. We explore the factors that blocked the possibility of reform in either Westminster or Storm…

  • Abortion Games’

    Open Access•Jane O’neill, Jane O'Neill•ARTICLE•History•2019•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 2

The 1967 Abortion Act placed the responsibility for determining the appropriate grounds for a termination with two medical practitioners. This assessment, to be made ‘in good faith’, hinged on the doctor's interpretation of the wording of the Act and how widely they defined the potential ‘risks’ of continued pregnancy.1 This responsibility could be troubling for doctors, who were being asked to use their medical expertise to determine what many c…

  • The Abortion Act (1967)

    Open Access•Sally Sheldon, Gayle Davis et al.•ARTICLE•Legal Studies•2018•Citada por: 6•Referencias: 5

In this paper, we set out what it means to offer a 'biography' of a law, illustrating the discussion through the example of the Abortion Act (1967), an important statute that has regulated a highly controversial field of practice for five decades. Biography is taken as a useful shorthand for an approach which requires simultaneous attention to continuity and change in the historical study of a law's life. It takes seriously the insight that writt…

  • The Holy Spirit and the Human Spirit in Galatians

    Jane O’neill, J C O'Neill•ARTICLE•Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses•1995

• The Source of the Christology in Colossians

    Open Access•Jane O’neill, J C O'Neill•ARTICLE•New Testament Studies•1979

The purpose of this paper is to argue that the author of the Epistle to the Colossians took his great Christological statements in i. 9–23 and ii. 6–15 direct from Jewish sources. I am denying on the one hand the thesis that he was writing as a creative theologian who drew from time to time on a store of theological ideas which he made his own, and on the other hand the thesis that he was citing ‘hymns’ that were already complete entities. He nei…

  • The Silence of Jesus

    Open Access•Jane O’neill, J C O'Neill•ARTICLE•New Testament Studies•1969

Did Jesus think he was the Messiah? To answer this question we have to go back to the seminal work of the great German New Testament scholar, Wilhelm Wrede (1859–1906)
