Women Who Use Drugs (WWUD) are amongst the most stigmatised groups in society and are subject to stigma as they engage with services and within their own recovery communities. The popular Black Shakespeare performers of the nineteenth century were known as Shakespeare ‘readers’. Barred from the dominant stage, these actors performed a fragmented Shakespeare often interspersed with popular Black poetry, their own writings, and music.
