Quantifying dam-related sediment (Dis)connectivity and its implications for the Godavari Delta (India)
Taphonomic analysis of Terebralia palustris assemblage from the prehistoric midden site of Bambhanka near Dholavira, District Kachchh, Gujarat (India)
Unravelling sediment sources and sinks in the large Ganga River system
A basin-scale sediment budget can reveal distinct contributions of tectonic, geomorphological and climatic domains to sediment dispersal in large river systems. While traditional budgets at the reach- and sub-basin-scale have focused on hinterland sediment supply, the role of alluvial storage in modulating sediment fluxes remains poorly understood, particularly in data-scarce Himalayan large rivers. To address this, we compiled sediment load data…
Sabarmati and its connection with the Harappan port Lothal and the Nal corridor
Lothal is situated approximately 30 km inland from the Gulf of Khambhat on the western coast of India in Gujarat. It served as a bustling port during the Bronze Age Harappan period (2600 BCE to 1900 BCE) and was connected to a series of Harappan production and distribution centres dotted along the Gulf of Kachchh and the Rann of Kachchh. Artefacts of foreign nature found in Lothal attest to its intercultural trade relation. Further, Lothal is ren…
Dominant role of deglaciation in Late Pleistocene–Early Holocene sediment aggradation in the Upper Chenab valley, NW Himalaya
Sediment transfer from the interiors of the Himalaya is complex because the archives are influenced by both glacial and monsoonal cycles. To deconvolve the coupling of glacial and monsoonal effects on sediment transfer processes, we investigate the Late Pleistocene–Holocene sediment archive in the Upper Chenab valley. Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) ages from the archive indicate major aggradation during ca. 20–10 ka. Isotopic fingerprint…
Temporal profiling of uplift rate along an active fault using river long profile in the Kuchchh region, Western India
Identification of deformation variability and active structures using geomorphic markers in the Nahan salient, NW Himalaya, India
Landscape connectivity
Geographic concerns for spatial relationships lie at the heart of geomorphic applications in environmental management. The way in which landscape compartments fit together in a catchment influences the operation of biophysical fluxes, and hence the ways in which disturbance responses are mediated over time. These relationships reflect the connectivity of the landscape. A nested hierarchical framework that emphasizes differing forms of (dis)connec…
