    본 연구는 실시간으로 인터넷방송과 채팅이 벌어지는 아프리카TV에 대한 사회정치적 분석이다. 상대적으로 제도의 사각지대에 놓인 인터넷 상활동이라는 점에서 아프리카TV는 종종 사회병리적 문제의 온상지로 진단되곤 한다. 이에 반해 본 연구는 스스로를 “괴물”이라 일컬으며 선정적, 폭력적 언행을 일삼는 BJ, 시청자 관계의 내적 논리를 파악하고자 한다. 이로써 “괴물들”의 세계가 지극히 사회적인 원리로 돌아가고 있음을 주장한다.BR 아프리카TV에서 통용되는 유사화폐 별풍선을 매개로 한 극화된 언행은 선물교환의 원리로 작동하며, 이때 “괴물”의 호칭에는 조롱과 사회적 위신, 인정이 함께 굴절되어 있다. 호혜적 교환과 동시에 나타나는 BJ와 시청자간 끊임없는 말싸움은 사회의 분열이나 관계 종식을 야기하기보다 자유롭고 평등한 사회체계를 재생산하는 기능을 한다. 사이트에서 운영자는 ‘괴물스런’ 행태를 제재하는…
