  • Life histories and niche dynamics in late Quaternary proboscideans from midwestern North America

    Open Access•Chris Widga, Gregory W L Hodgins et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2021

Stable isotopes of mammoths and mastodons have the potential to illuminate ecological changes in late Pleistocene landscapes and megafaunal populations as these species approached extinction. The ecological factors at play in this extinction remain unresolved, but isotopes of bone collagen (δ 13 C, δ 15 N) and tooth enamel (δ 13 C, δ 18 O, 87 Sr/ 86 Sr) from midwestern North America are leveraged to examine ecological and behavioral changes that …

  • A Hard Time to Date

    Open Access•Matthew E Hill, M E Beck et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•2018•Citada por: 8•Referencias: 26

During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Puebloan women (if not entire families) were incorporated into Apache Dismal River communities in western Kansas. In at least one site (14SC1), Puebloan people lived in a small masonry pueblo. We evaluate the timing and nature of the Puebloan occupation at 14SC1 and its relationship to the Dismal River population at the site. We use a Bayesian analytical framework to evaluate different models of th…
