  • An empirical test of shell tempering as an alkaline agent in the nixtamalization process

    Open Access•Andrew J Upton, William A Lovis et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2015•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 8

  • On Using Mental Model Interviews to Improve Camera Trapping

Open Access•Christopher A Jordan, ChristopherA Jordan et al.•ARTICLE•Conservation and Society•2013

In many regions, including our study area along the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, it is necessary to apply traditional or local environmental knowledge in biological research projects based in Western scientific knowledge. In such projects, it is important for both researchers and local people that the integration of the two knowledge systems: a) produces scientifically rigorous reports, and b) justly benefits local people. As every knowledge sys…

  • Modeling Freshwater Reservoir Offsets on Radiocarbon-Dated Charred Cooking Residues

    Open Access•J P Hart, William A Lovis et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•2013•Citada por: 9•Referencias: 58

Obtaining radiocarbon assays on objects of chronological interest is always preferable to obtaining assays on spatially associated charcoal. The development of Accelerator Mass Spectrometer (AMS) dating has expanded the number of objects that can be directly assayed because it requires only a few milligrams of material. Pottery can be directly assayed when charred cooking residues adhering to the interior walls are present. The accuracy of AMS ag…

  • Hardwood ash nixtamalization may lead to false negatives for the presence of maize by depleting bulk δ13C in carbonized residues

    Open Access•William A Lovis, Gerald R Urquhart et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2011•Citada por: 11•Referencias: 1

  • Paleoecological record of hurricane disturbance and forest regeneration in Nicaragua
