  • Qingqiao polyphenols improve DSS induced ulcerative colitis in mice by inhibiting NLRP3/AIM2 inflammasome mediated pyroptosis

Open Access•Limin Chao, Wenjing Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2026

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Qingqiao is a traditional Chinese medicine widely used for its heat-clearing, detoxifying, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. Due to these therapeutic effects, it has been commonly employed in the treatment of intestinal inflammatory disorders in China. AIMS OF THIS STUDY: This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of Qingqiao polyphenols (QP) on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcer…

  • The effects of recreational marijuana legalization on employment and earnings

  • Follow thy neighbor

Open Access•Hao Fe, Yang Liang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Urban Economics•2025•Referencias: 48

Exporting to foreign markets offers new opportunities for growth and expansion, but also comes with inherent challenges and risks. To mitigate these uncertainties, firms often learn from neighboring firms that are geographically close (Koenig et al. 2010; Silvente and Giménez 2007). Accounting for endogenous sorting of firms across space within cities, we present novel evidence of export spillovers at finely detailed spatial scales. Our findings …

  • Mandatory seatbelt laws and traffic fatalities

Open Access•D Mark Anderson, Liang Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Applied Econometrics•2024

Using data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System for the period 1983–1997, Cohen and Einav ( Review of Economics and Statistics 2003; 85[4]: 828–843) found that mandatory seatbelt laws were associated with a 4–6% reduction in traffic fatalities among motor vehicle occupants. After successfully replicating their two‐way fixed effects estimates, we (1) add 22 years of data (1998–2019) to capture additional seatbelt policy variation and observ…

  • Recreational Marijuana Legalization and Workplace Injuries Among Younger Workers

Open Access•Ling Li, Liang Yang et al.•ARTICLE•JAMA Health Forum•2024

This case-control study uses state-by-year workplace injury data to assess recreational marijuana legalization adoption and workplace injuries among younger workers aged 20 to 34 years

  • Does Mexico need free trade with the United States

    Open Access•James Gerber, Yang Liang•ARTICLE•ESTUDIOS FRONTERIZOS•2022

Free trade between the United States and Mexico is credited with having developed one of the largest bilateral trading relationships in the world. Yet Mexico-United States trade has been significant for more than a century. Our objective is to show how bilateral trade increased independently of the trade agreement that took effect in 1994, and to specify the other reasons why trade grew. We measure trade flows from the 1880s to the present and es…

  • First Trimester of Pregnancy as the Sensitive Period for the Association between Prenatal Mosquito Coil Smoke Exposure and Preterm Birth

Open Access•Xin-Chen Liu, Esben Strodl et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Mosquito coils are efficient mosquito repellents and mosquito coil smoke (MCS) contributes to indoor air pollution. However, no prior population-based study has investigated whether prenatal MCS exposure is a risk factor for preterm birth (PTB) and whether exposure to MCS in different trimesters of pregnancy is associated with different levels of risk. The sample involved 66,503 mother-child dyads. Logistic regression models were used to examine …

  • Job creation and job destruction

    Open Access•Yang Liang•ARTICLE•World Economy•2021

This paper studies the effect of export expansion on the US labour market over the last two decades. Exploiting foreign emerging markets’ unilateral liberalisation, this paper provides new empirical evidence for the importance of export expansion to the US labour market at the industry level. Using a novel instrumental variable strategy, the result confirms that US exports played a critical role in supporting manufacturing employment. Reduced‐for…

  • International trade and employment

Open Access•Priyaranjan Jha, Jae Yoon Lee et al.•ARTICLE•World Economy•2021

We extend the small country trade model with firm heterogeneity (Demidova and Rodriguez‐Clare, Journal of International Economics, 90, 2013 and 266) to incorporate offshoring (along with final goods trade). We derive the firm‐level employment implications of output and input trade and trade costs and test them using Korean firm‐level data for the period 2006–2016. A key theoretical result is that the impact of a change in offshoring cost on emplo…

  • Dissection of mechanisms of Chinese medicinal formula Realgar- Indigo naturalis as an effective treatment for promyelocytic leukemia

Open Access•Lan Wang, Guang‐Biao Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the National…•2008

To enhance therapeutic efficacy and reduce adverse effects, practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescribe a combination of plant species/minerals, called formulae, based on clinical experience. Nearly 100,000 formulae have been recorded, but the working mechanisms of most remain unknown. In trying to address the possible beneficial effects of formulae with current biomedical approaches, we use Realgar- Indigo naturalis formula (RI…
