  • Digital natives

    Open Access•Vanda Pribacic, Tatjana Škarić-Jurić et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologiai Közlemények•2026

Background: Today's adolescents are immersed in a digital environment, with social networks central to their lives for entertainment, communication and getting information. Being online enables adolescents to share their daily experiences, opinions, emotions, attitudes and express their identity. Still, the displacement hypothesis suggests that time spent on media reduces the time available for other, offline activities (e.g., physical activity),…

  • Stress, spirit and shape

Open Access•Nives Fuchs, Vanda Pribacic et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologiai Közlemények•2026

Background: Adolescence is a critical period when stress may affect nutritional status and body composition. Spirituality, defined as meaningful connections with oneself, others, nature, and something beyond the self that promote purpose, joy, and inner peace, may support coping with stress and healthier lifestyles. However, its relationship with stress and nutritional status remains unclear. Objective: To examine the associations of perceived st…

  • So Different but Equal

    Open Access•Tatjana Škarić-Jurić, Željka Celinšćak et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologie•2023

  • Testing the Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommendations on maternal reproductive health and associated neonatal characteristics in a transitional, Mediterranean population

Open Access•Jelena Šarac, Dubravka Havaš Auguštin et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2022

High maternal pre-pregnancy BMI and excessive GWG were both significantly associated with deviated biochemical parameters and neonatal size. More careful monitoring of maternal nutritional status can lead to better pre- and perinatal maternal healthcare

  • A six decades long follow-up on body size in adolescents from Zagreb, Croatia (1951–2010)

Open Access•Matea Zajc Petranović, Željka Tomas et al.•ARTICLE•Economics & Human Biology•2013

  • Age trends in prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in Roma minority population of Croatia

    Open Access•Hrvojka Marija Zeljko, Tatjana Škarić-Jurić et al.•ARTICLE•Economics & Human Biology•2012

  • Secular Trend in Height Mirrors Socio-economic Changes

    Open Access•Andrea Veceka, Željka Tomasb et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2012•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 1

The aim of this study was to examine the height in adolescent population of Zagreb (15-19 years) and to evaluate possible impact of war on secular changes from 1990 to 2010. Randomly selected adolescents of both sexes were surveyed three times in that period, in 1990, 1997 and in 2010. Mean heights were compared between sexes as well as between surveys using the One-way ANOVA. ANOVA Tukey HDS post hoc test was used to determine which survey diffe…

  • A detection of microevolutionary changes by the analysis of qualitative dermatoglyphic traits

Gazmend Temaj, Matea Zajc Petranović et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2012

In this study we analyzed the qualitative dermatoglyphic traits in the Albanians from three Kosovo distinct regions. We aimed to detect possible microevolutionary changes, which could have happened as a consequence of geographical and cultural isolation. The dermatoglyphic traits were analyzed for total 641 Albanians of both sexes. The analysis included 4 variables on fingers, 8 on palms and terminations of A, B, C, D and T main-lines. The differ…
