In a liberal, democratic culturally plural society, it is to be expected that people will differ in their views of the good life and that they will proceed differently in cognitive, moral and political matters. Problems and possibilities of ethnic minority traditional rights within liberal democracies
Problems and possibilities relating to claims to group rights within a liberal individualist democratic framework is explored here in two liberal democracies, viz., America and Canada. The tension inherent in individual rights and claims of ethnic minorities to traditional group rights are explored in selected Court cases. The idea behind citizenship education is that it will help both to integrate the demands of justice, equality and community and to prevent the increasing apathy towards politics and government, which may damage the health and stability of a modern liberal democracy. Small Scale Study of the Effects of Cross‐ethnic Tutoring on Inter‐ethnic Relationships
A study of a system of cross‐ethnic tutoring was undertaken in an inner‐city comprehensive school with the objective of fostering inter‐ethnic relationships. Thirteen pupils of mainly Bangladeshi origin who were learning English as a second language were paired with monolingual English speakers.
