Printing and Bookselling in Rodez, 1624–1820
This article focuses on the history of the Rodez printing firm in provincial France from 1624 to 1820 (although the firm ran until 1984). In contrast to the world of clandestine printing and bookselling, very little is known about the lives of ordinary sedentary printers in ancien-régime France. Malesherbes and the Crisis of 1787–8
Chrétien-Guillaume de Lamoignon de Malesherbes (1721–94) was a minister for Louis XVI twice and his second ministry coincided with the pre-revolutionary crisis of 1787–8. He wrote long contemporaneous memoranda for the king that were in the family archives, unavailable until 2010 when they were published.
