  • For Reputation's Sake

    Alexander Cohen•ARTICLE•Quarterly Journal of Political…•2025

How did firms adjust their corporate political activity (CPA) in response to the January 6th Capitol Insurrection? Through a longitudinal study of campaign contributions from Fortune 500 companies’ political action committees to members of Congress, I estimate the size and duration of corporate penalties toward legislators who objected to the 2020 election results. • AGI, apocalyptic narrative and state of exception

Alexander Cohen, Alexander Emil Cohen•ARTICLE•Interactions Studies in…•2022

Several recent studies noted systematic links between weather conditions and voting turnout amid the mass public. This article extends this logic to the elite level by exploring the relationship between summer heat and abstentions in the US House of Representatives. In controlled multivariate regressions, heat is a significant predictor of abstentions across all votes held between 1991 and 2000. This finding provides new insight into legislative …

  • The photosynthetic President

    Open Access•Alexander H Cohen, Alexander Cohen•ARTICLE•The Social Science Journal•2011•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 18

This paper tests the proposition that public opinion can be measurably influenced by sunlight. Specifically, it hypothesizes that sunlight should boost Presidential approval ratings because sunlight generally makes people happy and optimistic. Analysis reveals that, in spring and winter, survey respondents are indeed more likely to indicate approval of the President on sunny days than on cloudy days, even after controlling for demographic, ideolo…
