  • Holocene environmental changes in the highlands of Yemen revealed by Ostracod (Crustacea) stratigraphy

Open Access•Munef Mohammed, Dietmar Keyser et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2025

The region encompassing the Sahara and the Arabian Peninsula has seen dramatic changes in Holocene moisture availability. While the highlands of Yemen are sensitive to moisture dynamics, their history remains poorly known. This study provides new information on Holocene environmental change in the Yemeni highlands through analyses of the lithostratigraphy and ostracod stratigraphy of two localities. The diversity and abundance of ostracod populat…

  • Pleistocene freshwater ostracods from the Homo erectus site at Bilzingsleben, Germany—Review of historic collection and unpublished manuscript material for palaeoenvironmental reconstruction

    Open Access•Thomas Daniel, Peter Frenzel•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2023•Referencias: 5

We provide a review of micropalaeontological research on Ostracoda from the Middle Pleistocene (MIS 11, Holstein interglacial) hominin site Bilzingsleben in Thuringia in Central Germany from 1963 to the 1990s. Samples from four sections inside and six search pits outside the excavation area were investigated and, in total, 49 ostracod species were identified. The ostracod assemblages of the sections mirror the complex and small‐scale palaeoenviro…

  • Nonmarine Ostracoda as proxies in (geo‐)archaeology — A review

Open Access•Ella Quante, Anna Pint et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2022

Ostracods as bioindicators are extremely useful for reconstructing palaeoenvironment and palaeoclimate and can also indicate the provenance of sediments and materials, for example, in studies on ancient commercial networks. Ostracods are small crustaceans that live in almost all aquatic habitats, both natural and man‐made. Due to their calcitic carapace, they have high fossilization potential, and their use in geoarchaeology has been steadily inc…

  • Mid- to late-Holocene sea-level evolution of the northeastern Aegean sea

    Open Access•Martin Seeliger, Anna Pint et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2021•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 11

We combined biostratigraphical analyses, archaeological surveys, and Glacial Isostatic Adjustment (GIA) models to provide new insights into the relative sea-level evolution in the northeastern Aegean Sea (eastern Mediterranean). In this area, characterized by a very complex tectonic pattern, we produced a new typology of sea-level index point, based on the foraminiferal associations found in transgressive marine facies. Our results agree with the…

  • Multiproxy palaeontological investigations of Holocene sediments in the harbour area of the Hanseatic town Stralsund, North-Eastern Germany, southern Baltic Sea coast

  • Late Quaternary salinity variation in the Lake of Siebleben (Thuringia, Central Germany) – Methods of palaeoenvironmental analysis using Ostracoda and pollen

    Open Access•Anna Pint, Heike Schneider et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016•Referencias: 5

We test several methods of ostracod-based palaeoenvironmental reconstruction using indicator species approach, mutual ecological/climatic range methods, transfer functions, modern analogue technique and morphological variation within Cyprideis torosa in reconstructing the site evolution of a late Quaternary small lake basin in Thuringia, Central Germany. Sediment sections containing a diverse ostracod fauna were studied and compared with those fr…

  • New Sediment Cores Reveal Environmental Changes Driven by Tectonic Processes at Ancient Helike, Greece

Open Access•Max Engel, Kirstin Jacobson et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2016•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 6

According to various historical sources an earthquake and an associated tsunami wiped out the Greek city of Helike on the Gulf of Corinth in 373 B.C. This study combines stratigraphical data from a new series of sediment cores with archaeological findings of the Helike Project to better assess the fate of Helike. Abrupt lithological changes, for example, from coarse‐grained littoral facies at the base to fine‐grained lagoonal deposits, in three o…

  • Holocene lake level history of the Tangra Yumco lake system, southern-central Tibetan Plateau

    Open Access•Marieke Ahlborn, Torsten Haberzettl et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2015•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 8

Massive carbonate banks representing ancient lacustrine deposits are exposed in the catchment of the lake Tangra Yumco (southern-central Tibetan Plateau) and nearby lake Xuru Co. Nine sediment samples were taken below and above these lacustrine deposits to determine periods of changing lake level using optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) applying a multiple-aliquot regeneration (MAR) protocol. According to facies and stratigraphy, samples bel…

  • Holocene lake level fluctuations and environmental changes at Taro Co, southwestern Tibet, based on ostracod-inferred water depth reconstruction

    Open Access•Yun Guo, Liping Zhu et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2015•Referencias: 8

Lake level change is an important indicator of changes in the hydrological status of lakes triggered by the influence of atmospheric circulation systems. Previous studies show that the interaction of the Indian monsoon and the Westerlies, and their influence on environmental changes in the Tibetan Plateau region, remain unclear. Here, we reconstruct the Holocene lake level history of a lake, Taro Co, in southwestern Tibet, based on the relationsh…

  • Sediment dynamics and hydrologic events affecting small lacustrine systems on the southern-central Tibetan Plateau – the example of TT Lake

    Open Access•Marieke Ahlborn, Torsten Haberzettl et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2014•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 10

A sedimentological, geochemical, micropaleontological, and palynological study of a lacustrine sediment record from the small TT Lake (southern-central Tibetan Plateau) shows that the background sedimentation was frequently interrupted by event-related deposits. These event-related deposits are interpreted as the result of hydrologic events that are triggered by above-average precipitation events. In total, 11 events were recorded in the TT Lake …

  • Minne-Sang

    Peter Frenzel•ARTICLE•The German Quarterly•1982

Minnesang, that fashionable entertainment which lodged itself in the German courts in the second half of the twelfth century, has remained enigmatic and confounding to literary historians since the beginnings of modern scholarship in the nineteenth century.' Though the Minnesainger borrowed liberally from their courtly confreres to the West, the essence of their art seems to us to dwell further out on the axis of irreality than is the case with t…
