  • Matuyama/Brunhes magnetic reversal recorded in flowstone from the Račiška pečina Cave (Slovenia)

Open Access•Jacek Pawlak, Helena Hercman et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2024

  • Paleoclimatic reconstruction in the Tatra Mountains of the western Carpathians during MIS 9–7 inferred from a multiproxy speleothem record

Open Access•Marcin Błaszczyk, Helena Hercman et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2021

The SC-3 speleothem from Szczelina Chochołowska Cave, located in the Tatra Mountains, was studied in detail. U-series dating and age–depth modeling allowed us to constrain the period of speleothem growth to between approximately 330 and 200 ka, that is, during Marine Isotope Stages (MIS) 9–7. The complementary use of stable isotope analyses, petrographic studies, and trace element analyses allowed the identification of warm and wet climatic condi…

  • Pliocene to Holocene chronostratigraphy and palaeoenvironmental records from cave sediments

Open Access•Nadja Zupan Hajna, Andrej Mihevc et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2021

The sedimentological record in the Račiška pečina cave sediment sequence is one of the best-preserved cave records of palaeoenvironmental changes for the last 3.4 Ma. However, as it is typical for cave terrestrial records, it contains many hiatuses in sedimentation. The section study helped to change the state of knowledge and understanding of the long-lasting deposition characteristics in the caves and provided enormous data on environmental cha…

  • Karst sediments in Slovenia

Open Access•Nadja Zupan Hajna, Pavel Bosák et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2020

We synthesize information on results and age of cave sediments from Slovenia. The studied sites were mostly from the Classical Karst which is situated in the NW part of Dinarides and some from the Slovenian Southern Alps. Protected in caves, sediments are generally well preserved and reveal an exceptionally good, multi-proxy record of surface environmental conditions at the time of their deposition. Here we describe results of the systematic acqu…

  • Atmospheric circulation and the differentiation of precipitation sources during the Holocene inferred from five stalagmite records from Demänová Cave System (Central Europe)

    Open Access•Helena Hercman, Michał Gąsiorowski et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2020•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 8

Five stalagmites from the Demänová Cave System (DCS, Western Carpathians, Slovakia), spanning the period from 13,000 to 500 a BP, were analyzed for their oxygen and carbon stable isotopic composition of the calcite. The isotopic data obtained from several stalagmites located in one cave system allow us to separate the changes of regional/global importance from the local changes. Oxygen isotope ratios point to dynamic changes in the environment at…

  • Sedimentation of Holocene tufa influenced by the Neolithic man

Open Access•Michał Gradziński, Helena Hercman et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2017

  • Isotopic analysis (C, N) and species composition of rodent assemblage as a tool for reconstruction of climate and environment evolution during Late Quaternary

Open Access•Michał Gąsiorowski, Helena Hercman et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2014

  • Environment and climate of the Crimean Mountains during the Late Pleistocene inferred from stable isotope analysis of red deer (Cervus elaphus) bones from the Emine-Bair-Khosar Cave

Michał Gąsiorowski, Helena Hercman et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2014

  • Ancient DNA and dating of cave bear remains from Niedźwiedzia Cave suggest early appearance of Ursus ingressus in Sudetes

Open Access•M Baca, Paweł Mackiewicz et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2014

  • U-series dating of collagen – A step toward direct U-series dating of fossil bone

    Open Access•Helena Hercman•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2014•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 4

  • Comparison of U-Series and Radiocarbon Dates of Speleothems

Open Access•Tomasz Goslar, Helena Hercman et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2000•Citada por: 7•Referencias: 31

The paper presents a comparison of U-series and radiocarbon dates of speleothems collected in several caves in central and southern Europe and southeast Africa. Despite a large spread of dates, mainly due to contamination with younger carbon, the group of corresponding 14 C and 230 Th/U ages of speleothem samples seems to be coherent with the previous suggestion of large deviation between the 14 C and the absolute time scale between 35 and 45 ka …

  • Variations of Isotopic Composition of Carbon in the Karst Environment from Southern Poland, Present and Past

Open Access•Anna Pazdur, Tomasz Goslar et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1999•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 26

We describe a comprehensive study of carbon isotopes in several karst springs and their environs in a contemporary karst environment in the region of the Cracow-Wieluñ Upland and Western Tatra Mountains, Southern Poland. We collected samples of water, plants and carbonate deposited on aquatic plants, and obtained 13 C values and 14 C concentrations. We also investigated a group of the youngest calcium carbonates from caves where deposition is sti…
