  • The Influence of Plant Species and Pretreatment on the 14 C Age of Carex -Dominated Peat Plants of a Peat Core From Jinchuan Mire, Ne China

Open Access•Satabdi Misra, Sneha Kashyap et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2024•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 64

The comparisons among 126 14 C dates of Carex samples including separated leaf and root parts with acid (A)-treatment and acid-base-acid (ABA)-treatment, and 48 published 14 C dates of bulk peat plants on a 92-cm core from Jinchuan Mire in NE China, indicate old carbon influence (OCI) on the 14 C dates. The OCI varies with plant species, pretreatment and peat depth. In vascular peat plants such as Carex , humin fractions (remains after ABA treatm…

  • A Homemade Semiautomatic Graphitization Device for Ams 14 C Dating at Ntuams Lab

    Open Access•Tzu-Tsen Shen, Hong-Chun Li et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2024•Referencias: 16

A low-cost and computer-controlled graphitization system connected to an elemental analyzer (EA) has been designed and built at the NTUAMS Lab. This semiautomatic system equips 6-unit reactors for the graphitization of CO 2 with H 2 on the iron catalyst. The entire procedure takes about 7 hours for iron conditioning, sample combustion and loading, and graphitization. The system can produce good-quality graphite for samples containing 0.5–1.6 mg c…

  • Ams 14 C Dating and Stable Isotope Analysis on an 8-Kyr Oyster Shell From Taipei Basin

    Open Access•Hong-Chun Li, Horng-Sheng Mii et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2024•Referencias: 30

Seven accelerator mass spectrometry radiocarbon (AMS 14 C) dates (7260±106∼7607±95 BP averaged 7444±103 BP) on a giant oyster shell, collected from an ancient shore of the Taipei Basin, are similar to the LSC (liquid scintillation counting) 14 C age (7260±46 BP) of a grass sample inside the shell. The calibrated 14 C ages of the C. gigas by Marine20 are 7490±240∼7805±230 cal BP (average 7660±96 cal BP), generally agreed with the calibrated LSC 14…

  • Late Quaternary Dynamics of Landscape and Climate in the North of the West Siberian Plain Revealed by Paleoecological Studies of Peat and Lake Sediments

Open Access•Tatina Blyakharchuk, Nikita Shefer et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2023

West Siberian mires covering more than 50% of area in the subarctic are still poorly investigated despite their thick peat sediments suitable for paleogeographic research of past long-term landscape and climatic changes. In this research, a combination of paleoecological methods were used, including the analysis of pollen, spores, diatoms, NPPs, and macrofossils, the measurement of peat humification, and quantitative paleoclimate reconstruction. …

  • High-resolution records of anthropogenic activity and geohazards from the reservoir of Sun Moon Lake, Central Taiwan

Sun Moon Lake is the first dam reservoir constructed in Taiwan with the capability of generating hydroelectricity satisfying the whole Taiwan need during the Japanese colonial period since 1934 CE. Now, the Sun Moon Lake is one of the biggest hydropower stations in Taiwan and has become an important touring area. During World War II (1944–1945 CE), the hydroelectric power plant at Sun Moon Lake was bombed by the U.S. air force, which caused sever…

  • East Asian winter monsoon variation during the last 3000 years as recorded in a subtropical mountain lake, northeastern Taiwan

    Open Access•Tsai‐Wen Lin, Stefanie Kaboth‐bahr et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2021•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 6

The East Asian Winter Monsoon (EAWM) is a fundamental part of the global monsoon system that affects nearly one-quarter of the world’s population. Robust paleoclimate reconstructions in East Asia are complicated by multiple sources of precipitation. These sources, such as the EAWM and typhoons, need to be disentangled in order to understand the dominant source of precipitation influencing the past and current climate. Taiwan, situated within the …

    Open Access•Ting‐yong Li, Ting-Yong Li et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2017

A stalagmite with high 238 U content from Yangkou Cave, China, revealed the evolution of the Asian summer monsoon (ASM) between 49.1 and 59.5 ka, and the δ 18 O values recorded Dansgaard/Oeschger (D/O) events 13–17. The Yangkou record shows a relatively gradual transition into the D/O 14 and 16 events. The discrepancy between the abrupt and gradual transitions of D/O 14 in the records from northern and southern China, respectively, suggests diffe…

    Open Access•Hong-Chun Li, James L Bischoff et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2000

Core OL-97A, retrieved from the depocenter of Owens Lake, represents a depositional history spanning the past 1000 yr. Among the 17 elements analyzed in the acid-leachable fractions of 315 salt-free samples (at ∼3 yr/sample), Mg and Li, which come chiefly from authigenic Mg-hydroxy-silicates, were found to have concentration variations reflecting lake salinity and climatic changes during the past. A total of 231 isotopic measurements on carbonate…

  • Late Quaternary downcutting rates of the Qianyou river from U/Th speleothem Dates, Qinling mountains, China

Open Access•Fei Wang, Wang Fei et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2004

Dating deposits in caves formed by rivers may yield insight into rates and processes of bedrock incision. Three cave passages at different levels have developed in the walls of the Qianyou River valley in the Qinling mountains, south of the city of Xian, China. Twelve speleothem samples near the position of palaeowater tables in three cave passages are dated by the 230 Th dating method. The results show that the river cut down at the rate of 0.23…
