  • Inviting Conversations in Discipline‐Based Science Education

Open Access•Julia Gouvea, Hannah Sevian et al.•ARTICLE•Science Education•2026

A scholarly journal is a space for a community of researchers and practitioners to engage in conversations that expand knowledge, practice, and impact of a field. The new section of Science Education entitled “Discipline-Based Science Education” invites conversations within and among science education research communities that identify as “discipline-based.” Connections with disciplinary subfields such as biology, chemistry, physics, environmenta…

  • Society's educational debts due to racism, sexism, and classism in introductory biology student learning

Open Access•Jayson Nissen, Ben Van Dusen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Science…•2025•Referencias: 102

We investigated the intersectional relationships between racism, sexism, and classism in inequities in student conceptual knowledge in introductory biology courses using a quantitative critical framework. Using Bayesian hierarchical linear models, we examined students' conceptual knowledge as measured by the Introductory Molecular and Cell Biology Assessment. The data came from the LASSO Platform database and included 6547 students from 87 introd…

  • Comparing the Efficacy of Fixed-Effects and Maihda Models in Predicting Outcomes for Intersectional Social Strata

Open Access•Ben Van Dusen, Heidi Cian et al.•ARTICLE•Sociology of Education•2024•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 82

This investigation examines the efficacy of multilevel analysis of individual heterogeneity and discriminatory accuracy (MAIHDA) over fixed-effects models when performing intersectional studies. The research questions are as follows: (1) What are typical strata representation rates and outcomes on physics research-based assessments? (2) To what extent do MAIHDA models create more accurate predicted strata outcomes than fixed-effects models? and (…
