  • Pressure and obstacles to the employment of paid managers in voluntary sports clubs and federations in Germany

    Heinz-Dieter Horch, Norbert Schütte•ARTICLE•European Journal for Sport and…•2009•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 1

Do voluntary sports clubs and federations express a need to increase paid management, and how can this be explained? In Germany the discussion to date has been confronted with a puzzle for a long time, namely the contradiction between the often reported pressure to occupationalize on the one hand and the empirical unimportance of paid work – at least in sports clubs – on the other hand. Heinz-Dieter Horch, Norbert Schütte•ARTICLE•European Journal for Sport and…•2007•Referencias: 1

First, it characterises the transformation processes of voluntary associations which make them more similar to bureaucratic business organisations. The article's second endeavour is to discuss how changes in the economic features of an association have an impact on its social elements. The key argument is that changes in economic featu…

  • Does Government Financing have a Detrimental Effect on the Autonomy of Voluntary Associations? Evidence from German Sports Clubs

    Open Access•Heinz-Dieter Horch•ARTICLE•International Review for the…•1994•Referencias: 16

At first glance, the answer to this question seems all too obvious: The greater the share of government finances the greater the loss of autonomy. But from a resource-dependency and institutional approach, three more influential factors come to mind: the association's counterinfluence, the calculations of the governmental agencies (their alternatives, costs and benefits); and cultural factors. The paper presents evidence from a German survey in w…
