  • The Sole Effect of Double Standards—How Public Scandalization of Political Hypocrisy Influences Citizens' Democratic Trust and Engagement

Open Access•Silas Harrebye, Anders Ejrnæs et al.•ARTICLE•Scandinavian Political Studies•2026•Referencias: 48

Political hypocrisy is popularly understood as the discrepancy between what an individual says they believe one ought to do, and what they themselves actually do. Political hypocrisy is thus often linked to the study of political scandals, in which politicians who do not practice as they preach are exposed and their transgressions are amplified by extensive media coverage. Studies suggest that political hypocrisy might affect voters negatively an…

This article examines the relationship between changes in manufacturing employment and political discontent in European regions, using a multilevel hybrid model and data from the European Social Survey and European Commission. The analysis reveals that within regions, a decrease in manufacturing jobs leads to greater political discontent, but this relationship is not observed when comparing variation in manufacturing levels across regions. Additi…

Open Access•B Thomassen, Anders Ejrnæs et al.•ARTICLE•Irish Journal of Sociology•2023

This article examines explanatory factors behind well-being among Danish students during the COVID-19 crisis. The empirical analyses are based on a two round panel survey among students at Roskilde University in Denmark. Using fixed effect regression and random effect regression our results show that, amongst the variables included in the analysis, the level of self-assessed structure in everyday life has the strongest positive effect on the self…

  • Ofre og utryghed – Viktimiseringens betydning for utryghed

Rune Holst Scherg, Anders Ejrnæs•ARTICLE•Dansk Sociologi•2023

    Open Access•Anders Ejrnæs, Mads Dagnis Jensen•ARTICLE•Government and Opposition•2022•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 47

Studies have suggested that people voting for Brexit were motivated by anti-globalization, anti-multiculturalism and anti-elite sentiments. However, little is known about how these factors are related and whether citizens in other member states share similar reasons for wanting to exit the EU. Methodologically, this question is addressed by utilizing path models on data from the European Social Survey, with respondents in 17 countries. Empiricall…

  • How Different Parental Leave Schemes Create Different Take-Up Patterns

    Open Access•Tine Rostgaard, Anders Ejrnæs•ARTICLE•Social Inclusion•2021•Citada por: 7•Referencias: 16

The prevailing gender ideologies in the Nordic countries generally support the equal division of work and family life between men and women, including the equal sharing of parental leave. Regardless, as the exceptional case in the Nordic region, Denmark currently has no father’s quota, and this despite the strong impact such policy has effectively proven to have on gender equality in take-up of parental leave. While a quota intended for the fathe…

  • How do crises paralyze and activate? The impact of dissatisfaction on European patterns of participation

Anders Ejrnæs, Silas Harrebye et al.•ARTICLE•European Politics and Society•2021•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 22

This study examines recent developments and variations in extra-parliamentary activities–such as signing petitions, displaying political support, demonstrating, and boycotting products across 15 European countries. Using fixed effects regression analysis to investigate data from the European Social Survey, rounds 1–8 (2002–2016), we find that patterns of participation have significantly changed over time. We draw on theories on how participation …

    Jacob Torfing, Andreas Hagedorn Krogh et al.•ARTICLE•Policy & Politics•2020•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 39

This study reports the findings from an interactive research project in which academics and practitioners worked closely together in designing a new, criteria-based assessment tool that enables local municipalities to measure the degree of collaboration, innovation and crime-preventive effect in publicly financed projects intended to keep at-risk youth out of criminal activities. The assessment tool also offers a much-needed opportunity for resea…

Anders Ejrnæs, Mads Dagnis Jensen•ARTICLE•West European Politics•2019•Citada por: 9•Referencias: 35

Academic and general interest in public support for European Integration is on the rise. Theoretically, the utilitarian, identity, reference, cue-taking and signalling models have been developed to explain this perplexing phenomenon. While these models have been tested, there is no comprehensive up-to-date account of how well they perform separately, relative to each other and across levels. Empirically, this study utilises a data set with 110,87…

The study drew on data from the European Social Survey. Two important findings emerged from the analysis. First, an individua…

    Open Access•Susana Borra, Anders Ejrnæs•ARTICLE•European Union Politics•2011•Citada por: 6•Referencias: 26

The literature on new modes of governance suffers from a gap between the normative and the positive approaches to legitimacy. This article addresses this gap by studying the patterns of national stakeholders’ support for the Open Method of Coordination (OMC). The results of our survey demonstrate that the OMC receives greater support than previously assumed and that the support of national stakeholders is largely associated with their involvement…

A central question concerns how parental/maternal leave and childcare policies affect the occupational consequences for mothers who spend time on full-time caring. Using comparative data from the second round of the 2004/05 European Social Survey, the analysis shows that the duration of caree…
