  • Optimization of a DNA extraction protocol from fingerprints for the analysis of nuclear STR and mitochondrial DNA genetic profiles

Open Access•Yolanda Loarce, Pilar Rubio et al.•ARTICLE•Forensic Sciences Research•2025•Referencias: 26

Most of the cells found in fingerprints belong to the cornified barrier of the epidermis (stratum corneum), lack nuclei and cytoplasmic organelles, and are filled with keratin. Nuclear and mitochondrial DNA is degraded and embedded in the keratin mesh, a very resistant protein that is difficult to remove during DNA extraction. In this work, we studied the possible negative effect of keratin on Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) reactions and the inf…

  • Fingerprints as indicators of craftworkers' age and sex in a sample of clay ushabtis from TT 209, Luxor, Egypt

    Esperanza Gutiérrez-Redomero, Esperanza Guti鲲ez-Redomero et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2025

This article analyses fingerprints identified on a set of backed clay Egyptian funerary figurines, known as ushabtis. The strata in which they were found dates from the late Persian to the early Ptolemaic dynasties (ca. fifth to third centuries BCE), but the objects might have been made some two centuries earlier, during the Twenty-Fifth Dynasty (ca. 747656 BCE), and then reused for a later burial. The authors propose that fingerprints preserved …

  • Assessing the shooting distance of lead-free ammunition regardless of composition using Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy

    Open Access•Alicia Doña-Fernández, Jose Antonio Rodriguez-Pascual et al.•ARTICLE•Forensic Sciences Research•2023

Evaluation of gunshot residue from lead-free ammunition using scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray analysis indicated that 40% of the particles contained copper. The iForenLIBS system allowed the detection of copper-containing particles on fabric surfaces after firing at different distances with high sensitivity.Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy can determine the shooting distance of lead-free ammunition through copper detection…

  • Fingerprints identification on 3000 year old Egyptian mummies

    Jesús Herrerín, Esperanza Gutiérrez-Redomero•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2020

The Djehuty Project (Dra Abu el-Naga; Luxor, Egypt) contains a reused burial chamber, UE165. The human remains include 6 disarticulated, mummified human digits, of which five have very well-conserved prints. The most plausible dating is the Twenty-Second Dynasty (945-715 BCE). High resolution photographs were taken of these and studied in order to identify the main pattern, delta types and minutiae, ridge density and ridge breadth. First, however…

  • The asymmetry of dermatoglyphic finger ridge counts and the geographic altitude of the Jujenean population in northwest Argentina

    Open Access•José E Dipierri, Esperanza Gutiérrez-Redomero et al.•ARTICLE•HOMO•2018

  • Consanguinity by Random Isonymy and Socioeconomic Development in Argentina

    Open Access•José E Dipierri, Alvaro Rodríguez-Larralde et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Biosocial Science•2017

In human populations various flexible, labile and interdependent structures (genetic, demographic, socioeconomic) co-exist, each of which can be organized in an hierarchical order corresponding to administrative entities. The relationship between consanguinity, as estimated by random isonymy ( F ST ), and socioeconomic conditions was analysed at different levels of political and administrative organization in Argentina. From the surnames of 22,66…

  • Fingerprint ridge density in the Argentinean population and its application to sex inference

    Open Access•Noemí Rivaldería, Angeles Sánchez‐andré et al.•ARTICLE•HOMO•2016

  • Surnames, geographic altitude, and digital dermatoglyphics in a male population from the province of Jujuy (Argentina)

    Open Access•José E Dipierri, Esperanza Gutiérrez-Redomero et al.•ARTICLE•HOMO•2014

  • Random inbreeding, isonymy, and population isolates in Argentina

Open Access•José E Dipierri, Jose Dipierri et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Genetics•2014

  • Diversity of human lip prints

Open Access•Namita Sharma, Namita Alok Sharma et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2014

The remarkable feature noted after compilation of the data included pattern C (a bifurcate/branched prototype extending the entire height of the lip) being a frequent feature of the lips of all the populations studied, save for the Nigerian population in which it was completely absent and which showed a tendency for pattern A (a vertical linear groove) and a significantly higher susceptibility for combination (COM) patterns. Chi-square test and c…

  • Mortalidad infantil por malformaciones congénitas y condición socioeconómica

Open Access•Rubén A Bronberg, Ruben Bronberg et al.•ARTICLE•Revista Panamericana de Salud…•2012

The IMRCM was not significantly associated with the country's marked socioeconomic heterogeneity; the highest %DCM values, on the other hand, were observed in the populations of the central and southern areas of the country. Given the relationship between the %DCM and socioeconomic development of the population, use of this indicator as a proxy of well-being and quality of life is suggested

  • Sex differences in fingerprint ridge density in the Mataco-Mataguayo population

    Open Access•Esperanza Gutiérrez-Redomero, M C Alonso et al.•ARTICLE•HOMO•2011

  • Oral tori in a sample of the Spanish university students

Open Access•Virginia Galera, Virginia Galera Olmo et al.•ARTICLE•Antropologia Portuguesa•2004

Oral tori are an enlargement of the osseous tissue in different parts of the upper and lower maxillaries. Oral tori were studied in a Spanish sample of 278 university students, from both sexes, and age between 18 and 39 years. Presence or absence and morphological variability (analysis of their location, degree of development, form, and symmetry) of the oral tori were the topics of this research. A high prevalence with no sexual dimorphism was fo…

  • Anthropological study on spina bifida in the Community of Madrid

    Open Access•E Gutierrez, Esperanza Gutiérrez-Redomero et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1996

The incidence of spina bifida in the Community of Madrid (Spain) has been assessed during an eleven-year period, since 1970 to 1980: 0.37 per 1,000 newborns over a total of 272,332 newborns, dead and alive, of simple births. The sex ratio at birth was 94. Maternal variables have been studied (maternal age, menarche, parity, etc.), obstetric variables (number of abortions, medication during pregnancy, etc.) and also neonatal variables (weight, ges…

  • Cineanthropometric Study in Spanish Judoists

Open Access•Juan Francisco Romero Collazos, Maria Dolores Marrodán et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1996

Anthropometric characteristics of proportionality, body composition and somatotype have been determined in a group of 72 Spanish judoists. The sample includes the junior male and female National Team, and seniors competitors in the last Olimpic Games held in 1992, and participants in the National Championship of 1993. The methodology has been used according to Weiner and Lourie(1981)and MOGAP procedures described by Borms et al. (1979). The obtai…
