After the 2018 Camp Fire decimated the town of Paradise, California, a group physical activity (PA) program was developed to support the community. Exploring the Lived Experience of the Contemporary College Student Through Photo Elicitation
This research uses photo elicitation to examine the lived experience of the contemporary college student. Twenty-one participants took photographs of their college experience for a week, selected the five pictures that best represented their college experience, and then participated in a semi-structured interview to discuss the pictures. This study explores the meaning of inclusion among Black, Brown and Indigenous Persons of Color (BIPOC) and LGBTQI+ volunteers of a national sport governing body. The study situates itself within socio-ecological and critical race theories to (a) examine the experience of inclusion (or lack thereof) for minoritized volunteers and (b) identify hindrances and enablers of inclusion. The relation of sense of community in sport on resilience and cultural adjustment for youth refugees
This study examined associations between a sense of community (SOC) and both resilience and cultural adjustment for resettled youth refugees who participate in a refugee soccer club. Though related to overall wellness (e.g. academic success, emotional safety, self-sufficiency), research on factors that promote resilience and cultural adjustment for youth refugees is limited. In this study, we examined financial stress and general anxiety in college students ( N = 304) with attention to the moderating roles of different types of social support (i.e., family support, social support) and gender, as assessed via moderated moderation.
