What Took You so Long? An Examination of Reporting Time and Police Misconduct Complaint Dispositions
This study examines if and how the promptness of reporting internal and external police misconduct influences the disposition and discipline of misconduct investigations. Data were collected from one midwestern agency. In all, 306 allegations of police misconduct spanning 12 years were collected. On and Off Campus
This study explored emotional fear of crime among university students in a rural college town. More specifically, this study separately examined fear of property and violent crime both on and off campus. Findings indicate that males are more fearful of property crime on campus while females are more fearful of violent crime off campus. This study examined how characteristics of patrol officers and complaint cases influenced the timeliness of completing police misconduct investigations. Further, it analyzed how the timeliness of the investigation influenced the disposition and discipline of complaint investigations while controlling for relevant variables. In 2008, increased oil production in the Bakken oil shale region in western North Dakota sparked a rapid increase in population for the communities in that area. This study examines long-time residents’ perceptions of new residents moving into their community using quantitative methods.
