  • Dumpbusting

    A Peterson, Steven A Peterson et al.•ARTICLE•Polity•1993•Citada por: 1

Political orientations and behavior are commonly explained in one of two ways: as either symbolic politics, i.e., by values learned early in life, or situational politics, i.e., by current conditions or situations. This case study of the siting of a low-level nuclear waste facility integrates the two theoretical approaches into a single empirical model to compare their relative effects on political attitudes and behavior. The authors find that bo…

  • Infertility

    Open Access•Arthur L Greil, Thomas A Leitko et al.•ARTICLE•Gender & Society•1988•Citada por: 30•Referencias: 58

Using qualitative data based on interviews with 22 married infertile couples living in western New York State, we describe the ways in which husbands and wives interact in the process of constructing their infertility. The wives experienced infertility as a cataclysmic role failure. Husbands tended to see infertility as a disconcerting event but not as a tragedy. Couples tended to see infertility as a problem for wives. Frustration and lack of co…

  • Social Services Utilization by Families of Infants Discharged from a Neonatal Intensice Care Unit

    Claire S Rudolph, Karen L Porter•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Service Research•1986•Citada por: 1

Improvements in neonatal intensive care have resulted in increased rates of survival for high risk newborns. Many of the families of high risk infants need supportive services, yet research is sparse on follow-up services used by families with a high risk infant and the relative importance of the perinatal social worker in gaining access to these services. A predictive model of social services utilization is analyzed for 156 families interviewed …

  • Patterns of Medical Services Utilization by Infants Discharged From a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Karen L Porter, Claire Rudolph et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•1986

A decreasing neonatal mortality rate has increased the number of infants who survive their stay in a neonatal intensive care unit only to need continued medical care. Medical services utilization by families with high-risk infants has been widely studied, but research is sparse on high-risk infants who do not receive follow-up care through medical specialists' services or speciality clinics. After dividing medical services utilization into four p…
