A systematic review of the immersive practices within social work education that promote intercultural and transformative learning
The impact of short-term study abroad programmes on students and understanding of global influences is well documented. However, the specific practices that enhance these outcomes are underreported. This systematic review asked, ‘What practices in social work education enhance intercultural social work education?’ An extensive search of English and Taiwanese Mandarin scholarly databases reveals 21 papers that met the inclusion criteria for the re…

Learn to Live Again: A Pilot Study to Support Women Experiencing Domestic Violence
The results indicate participants as well as facilitators had positive experiences of L2LA. Participants valued the program and felt that it helped them to begin the healing process and improve their overall wellbeing. Women were very passionate about recommending the program to other women. Facilitators observed many positive changes in the women throughout the program. However, L2LA challenges included the small group size, managing the dynamic…
Screening for coercive control with refugee women accessing settlement services
Despite challenges due to differences in language, interpretation and cultural norms, this study found it feasible to enquire about controlling behaviour with refugee women accessing settlement services, along with other forms of IPV
Inclusive course design for online education: Investigating mature-age, international and rural/remote students’ perspectives of online learning
Community work education: Principles, collaboration, and immersive learning through a transnational social work program between Australia and Taiwan
Neo-liberalism and globalization have had a significant impact on social work education. What was once a program that focused equally on micro-practice with individuals to a macro-practice with communities, has now seen a shift away from collective practice and responsibility. Based within the context of a reciprocal short-term study abroad program between Taiwan and Australia, the aim of this study was to investigate the immersive practices that…
A critical discourse analysis of older women’s representation in housing and homelessness
Purpose Despite a significant evidence base illustrating the issue of housing insecurity and homelessness experienced by women over the age of 55 in Australia [Pawson et al., 2018; Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), 2021b; Mission Australia 2022; Per Capita 2022], there continues to be a knowledge gap in the representation of older women in current Federal and New South Wales (NSW) State Government housing and homelessness policie…

Indigenous People’s Experiences and Expectations of Health Care Professionals When Accessing Care for Family Violence: A Qualitative Evidence Synthesis
Although many Indigenous peoples demonstrate resilience and strength despite the ongoing impact colonization has on their peoples, evidence suggests poor experiences and expectations of health care professionals and access to health care. Health care professionals play an essential role in responding to family violence (FV), yet there is a paucity of evidence detailing Indigenous people’s experiences and expectations of health care professionals …
Knowledge translation activity of a domestic violence research network: A scoping survey
Introduction: Research networks undertake work collaboratively on complex areas of research. Few studies examine how these networks develop their knowledge translation activity. Focusing on a domestic violence research network (DVRN), the aim of this study was to answer the question: What is the shared understanding of knowledge translation and activity in a domestic violence research network? Methods: A sample of DVRN members undertook an anonym…
Creating an action plan to advance knowledge translation in a domestic violence research network: A deliberative dialogue
Background: There is limited research on how knowledge translation of a domestic violence (DV) research network is shared. This lack of research is problematic because of the complexity of establishing a research network, encompassing diverse disciplines, methods, and focus of study potentially impacting how knowledge translation functions. Aims and objectives: To address the limited research, we completed a deliberative dialogue with the followi…
Exploring the knowledge translation of domestic violence research: A literature review
There is growing recognition of the links between knowledge translation, policy and practice, particularly in the domestic violence research area. A literature review applying a systematic approach with a realist lens was the preferred methodology. The review answered the following question: What are the mechanisms of change in research networks which 'work' to support knowledge translation? A search of eight electronic databases for articles pub…
Balancing Opposing Forces-A Nested Process Evaluation Study Protocol for a Stepped Wedge Designed Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial of an Experience Based Codesign Intervention: The Core Study
Background: Process evaluations are essential to understand the contextual, relational, and organizational and system factors of complex interventions. The guidance for developing process evaluations for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) has until recently however, been fairly limited. Method/Design: A nested process evaluation (NPE) was designed and embedded across all stages of a stepped wedge cluster RCT called the CORE study. The aim of the…
A review of the efficacy and effectiveness of harm reduction strategies for alcohol, tobacco and illicit drugs
Harm reduction is both a policy approach and used to describe a specific set of interventions. These interventions aim to reduce the harms associated with drug use. Employing a strict definition of harm reduction, evidence for the efficacy and effectiveness of alcohol, tobacco and illicit drug harm reduction interventions were reviewed. Systematic searches of the published literature were undertaken. Studies were included if they provided evaluat…
