  • Self-reflections of health care chaplain fellows

Open Access•Rachel Lee, Maureen Shelton et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Care Chaplaincy•2026

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) prepares health care chaplains to address the spiritual and emotional needs of diverse patients and staff by cultivating self-awareness, interpersonal and clinical skills, and resilient compassion. Some health care chaplains engage in structured fellowship activities after CPE to expand and improve their expertise in clinical spiritual care. We conducted a retrospective investigation of recurring consult case ref…

  • A mixed-method evaluation of implementation determinants for chaplain intervention in a hospital setting

Open Access•Jennifer S Mascaro, Marianne P Florian et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Care Chaplaincy•2024

Healthcare chaplains address broad social and emotional dimensions of care within a pluralistic religious landscape. In this mixed-method study, we examined attitudes about evidence-based interventions held by chaplain residents (n = 39) at the outset of …

Open Access•P K Palmer, Zainab Siddiqui et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024

Healthcare personnel experienced unprecedented stressors and risk factors for burnout, anxiety, and depression during the COVID-19 pandemic. This may have been particularly true for spiritual health clinicians (SHCs), also referred to as healthcare chaplains. We administered a daily pulse survey that allowed SHCs to self-report burnout, depression, and well-being, administered every weekday for the first year of the pandemic. We used a series of …

Marcia J Ash, Elizabeth Reisinger Walker et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Care Chaplaincy•2021

This study examines the effectiveness of incorporating compassion meditation training into a clinical pastoral education (CPE) curriculum to enhance compassion satisfaction and reduce burnout among hospital chaplain residents. Specifically, a longitudinal, quasi-experimental design was used to examine the impact of Cognitively-Based Compassion Training (CBCT), a group-delivered compassion meditation intervention. Hospital chaplain residents (n = …

  • Incivility Is Associated with Burnout and Reduced Compassion Satisfaction

    Open Access•Jennifer S Mascaro, P K Palmer et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

While oncology clinical research coordinators (CRCs) experience a combination of factors that are thought to put them at increased risk for burnout, very little research has been conducted to understand the risk factors associated with burnout among CRCs. We used a mixed-method approach, including self-report questionnaires to assess burnout and compassion satisfaction, as well as individual and interpersonal variables hypothesized to impact CRC …

  • Practical Matters and Ultimate Concerns, 'Doing,' and 'Being

Open Access•Ellen Idler, Ellen L Idler et al.•ARTICLE•Journal for the Scientific Study…•2015•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 18

Systematic observational studies of the chaplain's role and function in the secular health-care setting are few. With an episode-based diary recorded on handheld digital tablets, palliative care chaplains at a large urban hospital with a diverse patient population recorded details of patient visits in near-real time. Cluster analysis revealed groups of activities we called 'doing' and 'being,' and conversation topics of 'practical matters' and 'u…
