Highest Happiness
Descriptions of peak experiences collected from 29 exhibiting artists were compared with parallel data from a comparison group of 123 men and women enrolled in university courses in social sciences. Each person narratively described a personal incident of highest happiness, then rated a series of descriptions on Likert-type scales. Stability of Factor Structure on the Semantic Differential
Previous research on the semantic differential technique has found evidence for variance in Osgood's original formulation of three dimensions of connotative meaning: namely, Evaluation, Potency, and Activity. Piotrowski (1983a) reported on the inconsistency in factor structure with the exception of the Evaluative dimension. The effects of a natural aversive stimulus (Hurricane Eloise in 1975) on locus of control and perception of the concept "hurricane" were investigated among 463 fifth graders from Title I schools in two coastal cities along Florida's Panhandle. Although both cities were threatened, only one was hit. Of the 269 Ss in the city hit, 184 had fourth grade locus of control scores.
