Welfare Regime Variation in the Impact of the Great Recession on Deprivation Levels
This paper investigates changes over the period 2005 to 2014 in material deprivation dynamics of social risk groups in 11 European countries covering a range of welfare regimes. This article describes a method for purging data of the effects of acquiescent response bias—a tendency to respond in the affirmative to survey items irrespective of substantive content—in the absence of a balanced scale (a scale with an equal number of positively worded and negatively worded items).
