Superiority of Latency-Weighted Scores over Unweighted Scores in the Assessment of Professional Interests
Scores obtained from latency-weighted testing correlated significantly with projective incomplete-sentence scores (0.55) but not with paper-and-pencil scores (.05) in assessing professional suitability. The latency-weighted scores provided increased diagnostic value in responses to interest-inventory items
Whatever happened to the will in american psychology
Use of the Latency Principle in Personality Assessment
Projective tests are considered by many students of personality as of questionable validiry because of their great reliance on subjective judgment and the skill of interpretation acquired through long training. It seemed desirable to devise a technique, other than projective, which is objective to sensitive blocks underlying S's verbal responses to paper-and-pencil items. The solution was to measure automatically the latencies of S's verbal respo…

Increased Diagnostic Value of the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale by Use of Response Latency
30 undergraduate students were presented both stimulus items from the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale and their reversals randomly with a Hunter Cardmaster and Printout counter. High-anxiety and low-anxiety cutoff groups were formed using the 10 highest and 10 lowest MAS scores. Latency-weighted responses ranged from 6 (highest MAS score) to 1 (lowest MAS score). Four anxiety scores on specific dimensions, hysteria, psychasthenia, depression, and s…
Diagnostic Value of Reaction Time in Different Formats of Personality Items
The proposal, earlier described by Gilbert (1965), that S will agree with a congenial personality item faster than he will disagree with its reversal of equal reading length (polar format) was found to apply also to the “involved-neutral” format, in which S‘s reaction times for neutral stimulus propositions are compared with his reaction times for ego-involved personality items
