  • Should We Retire the Concept of Source Credibility? An Experimental Exploration of When Credibility Is (and Is Not) Useful

    Open Access•Emily A Andrews, Nathan Walter et al.•ARTICLE•Science Communication•2025•Referencias: 7

Perceived source credibility is fundamental to effective science communication. Recent years, however, have seen science become polarized and expert authority erode, complicating the notion that credibility equals persuasion. Two experiments address this tension, focusing on subcomponents of perceived source credibility—expertise and trustworthiness—for expert ( N = 474) and nonexpert sources ( N = 411). By manipulating the order by which partici…

  • Does it matter who tells the story? An experimental test of the effects of narrative perspective on credibility, identification, and persuasion

Jonathan Cohen, Erga Atad et al.•ARTICLE•Communication Research Reports•2023

This experimental study explores the effects of narrative perspective on the outcomes related to health testimonials. One testimonial was presented to each respondent regarding one of the four topics (AIDS, lung cancer, gum disease, and alcoholism) and in one of the three perspectives (patient, parent, and doctor). Respondents (n = 967) were then asked to report on various reactions to the video, including credibility, identification, and story-c…

  • Look me in the eyes

    Open Access•Erga Atad, Jonathan Cohen•ARTICLE•Journalism•2023•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 9

This study examines whether viewers’ parasocial interaction with a journalist affects the credibility of the journalist and the credibility of the news message, as well as whether the journalist’s direct or indirect address triggers this effect. In a between-subjects experiment ( N = 255), viewers had a more intense parasocial experience when the journalist addressed them directly rather than indirectly. Furthermore, viewers’ intense parasocial e…

  • Global Newsworthiness and Reversed Domestication

    Erga Atad•ARTICLE•Journalism Practice•2016•Citada por: 9•Referencias: 19

This study examines whether news broadcasts across nations are more cosmopolitan or parochial in their essence. To answer this question, the article proposes two unique theoretical concepts: “global newsworthiness” and “reversed domestication.” Global newsworthiness refers to news broadcasts that include ranges of countries, selected by several different reporting criteria. Reversed domestication refers to the connection made between the country …
