  • Generative Artificial Intelligence as Hypercommons

Open Access•G Islam, Michelle Greenwood•ARTICLE•Journal of Business Ethics•2024

In this editorial essay, we argue that Generative Artificial Intelligence programs (GenAI) draw on what we term a “hypercommons”, involving collectively produced inputs and labour that are largely invisible or untraceable. We argue that automatizing the exploitation of common inputs, in ways that remix and reconfigure them, can lead to a crisis of academic authorship in which the moral agency involved in scholarly production is increasingly erode…

  • Intimate Partner Violence and Business

Open Access•Charlotte M Karam, Michelle Greenwood et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business Ethics•2023

In this article, we conceptualize the under investigated and under theorized relationship between intimate partner violence (IPV) and business responsibility. As an urgent social issue, IPV—understood as abuse of power within the context of an intimate partner relationship, mainly perpetrated by men and involving a pattern of behavior—has been studied for decades in many disciplines. A less common yet vital research perspective is to examine IPV …

  • Freedom, work and organizations in the 21st century

Open Access•Dirk Lindebaum, Frank Den Hond et al.•ARTICLE•Human Relations•2022•Referencias: 52

This article critically interrogates the meaning of freedom and its current and potential relationship with social relations in and around work as introduction to this special issue. This interrogation is vital given neoliberalism’s evaluative promise for more individual and corporate freedom, while concurrently limiting the conditions for the experience/expression of freedom of workers. Consequently, there are concerns about working for “private…

  • Agonising over industrial relations

Open Access•Harry J Van Buren, Michelle Greenwood et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Industrial Relations•2021

The construct of pluralism has allowed us to see a world where parties could pursue divergent interests, sometimes to the point of conflict, and still work together to realise goals. In response to changing models of employment that are threatening many of the values and interests core to workers and society, new readings of pluralism have emerged that we will argue oscillate between antagonism and consensus. In response, we proffer the concepts …

  • Philosophy and Management Studies

Raza Mir, Michelle Greenwood•BOOK•Philosophy and Management Studies•2021•Citada por: 1

Irrespective of whether one thinks of philosophy explicitly, each organizational researcher is a philosopher. A philosophical position is predicated on a variety of approaches relating to ontology, epistemology, methodology, ethics, and political positions. Depending on where one stands with regard to these philosophical building blocks, their orientation may be characterized as positivist, realist, critical-realist, and constructivist, with prag…

Domestic violence is a global pandemic. Domestic violence is gendered violence and perpetuates women's inequality. Women experience domestic violence at higher rates than men, and the perpetrators are, more often than not, men. Organizations play an essential role in addressing domestic violence. This article establishes the relationship between domestic violence and organizations at four interfaces of contemporary relevance, to make visible the …

  • HRM and Ethics

    Open Access•Michelle Greenwood•CHAPTER•Wiley Encyclopedia of Management•2015

Human resource management (HRM) – as a field of research, study, and practice – has been immersed in ethical issues from its inception. By its very nature, the management of humans as resources raises ethical considerations. Surprisingly, ethical analyses of HRM have been limited in scope and prominence. Traditionally, ethical examinations of HRM have tended to focus at the microlevel: justice‐based principles of fairness and equity have been app…
