Collaboration as a Tool for Equity? Reducing Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Healthcare Access
Despite its importance in theory and practice, little is known about whether, how, when, and for whom a collaborative governance strategy achieves socially equitable outcomes. Using a staggered difference‐in‐differences design and data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, we analyze how well Oregon counties that adopted collaborative governance bridge racial disparities in healthcare access compared to non‐adopting counties. A “Watershed” Moment for Collaboration
Cross‐boundary collaboration is a common strategy used to address environmental issues, but scholars do not yet fully understand what makes a difference in the outcomes of externally directed collaborations. Understanding the Emergence of Computational Institutional Science
Computational Institutional Science (CIS) is an emerging stream of social science research performing institutional analysis with computational methods. While such scholarship is garnering increased attention, it draws on many different theories and engages disparate disciplinary backgrounds. Thus, this article provides an overview of CIS articles utilizing agent-based modeling, a computer simulation experiment method, to better understand critic…
Distributive Justice in Collaborative Outputs
This article explores how deliberation affects distributive justice for minority view participants in policy decisions made through collaborative governance. It also examines whether the quality of deliberation (i.e., willingness to accept opposing viewpoints) and quantity of deliberation (i.e., length of discussion) can be an effective tool for minority view participants to overcome power imbalances in such collective decision-making processes. …
How citizens want to “see” the state
Although transparency is recognized as an important public value, few studies examine how citizens see the relationship between transparency and other public values. To empirically investigate this relationship, we distinguish among five types of transparency and explore their associations with different views of “good” government and other public values. Using survey data and Q methodology, we find that citizens see transparency as an important …
