  • Manured or not manured? New baselines for re-interpreting cereal C and N stable isotope data from Neolithic sites in the NW Mediterranean

Open Access•F Antolín, Guillem Salvador Baiges et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2025•Referencias: 2

  • A Universal Gas Interface for Simultaneous 14 C and Δ 13 C Measurements

Open Access•Melina Wertnik, Lukas Wacker et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2024•Referencias: 32

While simultaneous radiocarbon and δ 13 C measurements have been available for organic materials (by accelerator mass spectrometry, AMS, and isotope ratio mass spectrometry, IRMS, respectively), this has not been possible for carbonates until now. Using an existing interface for gas ion source AMS measurements, we developed a prototype for a universal gas interface that allows simultaneous measurement of both carbon isotope ratios from potentiall…

  • An archaeobotanical and stable isotope approach to changing agricultural practices in the NW Mediterranean region around 4000 BC

    Open Access•F Antolín, Stefanie Jacomet et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2023•Referencias: 15

It has recently been observed, that a change in the crop spectrum happened during the so-called Middle Neolithic in France at ca. 4000 BC. An agricultural system based on free-threshing cereals (naked wheat and naked barley) seems to shift to one based on glume wheats. This is a major change for traditional farmers and this paper aims to shed light on its possible causes. Here we describe the results of new investigations in a key area for the un…

  • Rapid 14 C Analysis of Dissolved Organic Carbon in Non-Saline Waters

    Open Access•Susan Q Lang, Cameron P McIntyre et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2016•Citada por: 6•Referencias: 29

The radiocarbon content of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in rivers, lakes, and other non-saline waters can provide valuable information on carbon cycling dynamics in the environment. DOC is typically prepared for 14 C analysis by accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) either by ultraviolet (UV) oxidation or by freeze-drying and sealed tube combustion. We present here a new method for the rapid analysis of 14 C of DOC using wet chemical oxidation (W…

  • Climate of the past 2500 years in the Gulf of Taranto, central Mediterranean Sea

    Open Access•Anna‐Lena Grauel, Anna-Lena Grauel et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2013•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 11

We present a high-resolution isotope stratigraphy based on Globigerinoides ruber (white) over the past 2500 years in the Gulf of Taranto, central Mediterranean. G. ruber (white) reflects summer conditions in the Gulf of Taranto but is influenced by two major surface water masses: the Western Adriatic Current (WAC) and the Ionian Surface Water (ISW) and their variations on a decadal to multicentennial scale. Our analysis of the δ 13 C and δ 18 O o…

  • Anomalous Radiocarbon Ages Found in Campanian Ignimbrite Deposit of the Mediterranean Deep-Sea Core CT85-5

Open Access•I Hajdas, Carla Taricco et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2011•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 26

A detailed radiocarbon chronology has been established for the deep-sea core CT85-5 from the Tyrrhenian Sea. This chronology, which is based on the analysis of foraminifera shells, shows a set of reversed 14 C ages for sediments deposited during the eruption of the Campanian Ignimbrite (∼40 ka cal BP). The anomalous young 14 C ages coincide with elevated concentrations of 10 Bc measured in the same core. Although reversals in 14 C ages have been …

  • Nile floods recorded in deep Mediterranean sediments

Open Access•Emmanuelle Ducassou, Thierry Mulder et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2008

Clastic mud beds rich in continental organic matter are observed recurrently in the Nile deep-sea turbidite system. They formed during flooding periods of the river similar to those that induce sapropel formation and occurred during periods of increased density stratification of the eastern Mediterranean. The very fine-grained flood deposits are intercalated within pelagic sediments, sapropels and Bouma-type turbidites. These flood deposits form …

  • Stable isotopic record of hydrological changes in subtropical Laguna Mar Chiquita (Argentina) over the last 230 years

    Open Access•Eduardo L Piovano, Daniel Ariztegui et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2004•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 1

Laguna Mar Chiquita, a highly variable closed saline lake located in the Pampean plains of cetral Argentina, is presently the largest saline lake in South America ("-6000km 2 ). The availability of hitorical, instrumental lake-level and salinity data for the past 100 years allows for the calibration of the isotopic archive recorded in the lake sediments. Prolonged intervals with either negative or positive hydrlogical balances have severely modif…
