  • Community Identity and Community Participation

Open Access•Zhixu Yang, LiPing Chi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community & Applied…•2026

Community identity is consistently linked to community participation, yet the directionality of this relationship, specifically its within‐person dynamics, remains unclear. Theoretical frameworks posit community identity as a precursor to, a byproduct of, or a mutual reinforcer of community participation. We tested these theories using a three‐wave longitudinal design with 1‐month intervals among 508 Chinese urban residents. Random intercept cros…

  • The relationship between Chinese citizens' debt and redistribution preferences

Open Access•Luxiao Wang, Ziqiang Xin•ARTICLE•Asian Journal Of Social Psychology•2025

Debt is a global issue. The high household leverage ratio in China indicates that Chinese people may face significant debt pressure. Previous studies have found that heavy debt has a detrimental effect on individuals' cognition, emotion and behaviour. This study examines the impact of debt on policy attitudes and preferences, specifically redistribution preferences, as well as its mediation mechanism. In Study 1, self‐reported data on the amount …

  • The market mindset erodes social mindfulness

Open Access•Huiwen Xiao, Ziqiang Xin•ARTICLE•Asian Journal Of Social Psychology•2024

Previous studies have mainly explored the impacts of social mindfulness on social behaviours (e.g., cooperation), little is known about crucial macro social environment factors that affect social mindfulness, like the market economy. With the development of the market economy, people typically acquire the self‐centred and rational market mindset which may suppress social mindfulness. Therefore, the current study aimed to examine the causal relati…

Open Access•Ziqiang Xin, Zhixu Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Asian Journal Of Social Psychology•2023

Studies have shown that debt pressure impairs people's subjective well‐being and social functioning, but few studies have examined its moral consequences. To explore the relationship between debt pressure and unethical behaviour intention, we conducted three studies and obtained aggregate‐level (Study 1) and individual‐level evidence (Studies 2 and 3). Study 1 analysed data on quarterly search volumes related to unethical behaviour intention on B…

Open Access•Xiangkun Wang, Ziqiang Xin•ARTICLE•Journal of Pacific Rim Psychology•2023

Previous research has shown that the locus of control among college students in the United States has become increasingly external. However, people's locus of control may not have the same change pattern in different cultural contexts. In this study, we investigated the changes of locus of control of Chinese college students by conducting two cross-temporal meta-analyses. Study 1 was based on Rotter's locus of control scale showing that the level…

Prior studies have revealed that community identity promotes participation. However, it remains unclear whether heterogenous community identity profiles emerged and how they differed in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related community participation. Thus, the current study used a person-oriented approach to address these issues. A total of 1,083 Chinese residents participated in a national online survey in mid-March 2020. A latent profile an…

Study 1 found a negative effect of market priming on interpersonal trust. Study 2 manipulated the representations of the two market attributes by rendering either impetus or rule attribute relatively salient. The results showed that compared with highlighting impetus, highlightin…

Open Access•Ziqiang Xin, Yue Zhang•ARTICLE•Journal of Pacific Rim Psychology•2018

Although many studies have focused on how trustees’ particular or single social identity affects their trustworthiness, only one study has revealed that trustees with multiple social identities are judged as more trustworthy than those with a single identity. However, the study could not show how trustworthiness systematically changes with an increasing number of social identities. The present study addressed this issue and further explored in tw…

  • Changes in Chinese Middle School Students' Mental Health (1992~2005)

Ziqiang Xin, Zi-Qiang XIN et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2009

Mei Zhang, Ziqiang Xin et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2013

Ziqiang Xin, Zi-Qiang XIN et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2013

Open Access•Guofang Liu, Ziqiang Xin et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2014

Negativity bias means that negative information is usually given more emphasis than comparable positive information. Under signal detection theory, recent research found that people more frequently and incorrectly identify negative task-related words as having been presented originally than positive words, even when they were not presented. That is, people have lax decision criteria for negative words. However, the response biases for task-unrela…
