Thunder Bay, Ontario, was not a pathway for catastrophic floods from Glacial Lake Agassiz
Lake Agassiz outburst age and routing by Labrador Current and the 8.2 cal ka cold event
Verbal Style, Gubernatorial Strategies, and Legislative Success
This article examines the relationship between a governor's verbal style and his success in achieving his legislative goals. We add a measure of verbal style developed by Roderick Hart to a traditional model used by scholars of political chief executives to explain legislative success. We apply this model to the State of the State addresses of six governors of Florida who served between 1966 and 2006. Our findings reflect the validity of the trui…
Influence of loss of gradient from postglacial uplift on Red River flood hazard, Manitoba, Canada
The north-flowing, low-gradient section of the Red River in Manitoba has lost-60%/o of its valley gradient since 8 ka cal. BP. An existing hydraulic model of the modem Red River flood zone was used to examine the change in flood extent and depth of a discharge equivalent to the 1997 Red River flood (3970 m 3 /s) for scenarios of gradients at 8, 6, 4 and 2 ka cal. BP as well as 2 ka in the future. The modelling indicates a broad, shallow flood zon…
Investigating the employment interview
Research into interviews has largely been ignored by organizations, perhaps because the findings are fragmented and difficult to translate into meaningful improvements. The initial research concern was with the outcome of the interview, which was superseded by an interest in its content, with little attention being paid to the interview process. This has led to erroneous assumptions by researchers concerning the nature of the interview, assumptio…
