Optimal Scale of Greenspace Exposure for Pulmonary Tuberculosis Treatment Success
Unraveling Bureaucratic Procrastination
When confronted with demanding workloads and limited resources, grassroots bureaucrats may resort to procrastinating on tasks as a coping strategy. This study integrates the Stimulus‐Organism‐Response (SOR) model, the Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), and the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory to unravel the multi‐layered drivers of bureaucratic procrastination. Using survey data from Chinese grassroots bureaucrats, we employed a dual‐logic appr…
From Relational Stability to Network Resilience
While the public contracting literature has explored the advantages and limitations of competitive versus relational/collaborative contracting ties, network research focuses on how structural characteristics influence a network's stability and ability to withstand environmental disruptions. However, little scholarship examines how collaborative versus competitive ties affect network stability and resilience to environmental shocks. This study add…
What matters the most in curbing early Covid‐19 mortality? A cross‐country necessary condition analysis
COVID-19 represents a turbulent problem: a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous crisis, in which bounded-rational policymakers may not be able to do everything right, but must do critical things right in order to reduce the death toll. This study conceptualizes these critical things as necessary conditions (NCs) that must be absent to prevent high early mortality from occurring. We articulate a policy-institution-demography framework that …

The stimulus representation of unconscious information and its temporal characteristics
Linking Local Consumption to Global Impacts
Ecological Network Analysis of Embodied Energy Exchanges Among the Seven Regions of China
Regional economic development in China has resulted in an unbalanced distribution of resources and frequent exchanges of resources and products among regions. Therefore, it is necessary to understand these regional differences to support national planning to improve sustainability. In this research, we used energy data and a multiregional input‐output table for China in 2002 to analyze the domestic trade among the 30 provinces and seven regions o…
Spontaneous or Constructed? Neighborhood Governance Reforms in Los Angeles and Shanghai
Can grassroots government succeed on its own without state involvement? By comparing approaches in two metropolitan governments—neighborhood councils in Los Angeles and resident committees in Shanghai—Bin Chen of the City University of New York at Baruch College, Terry L. Cooper of the University of Southern California, and Rong Sun of Shanghai Tongji University underscore the need to understand the interrelationships among the political and admi…
