    This article is a microhistory of the drinking and drunkenness of the police force in the seaside resort of Brighton, England, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. It builds on previous histories of the police, which typically mention drink in wider discussions of officer misconduct or sociability, to produce a comprehensive quantitative analysis of the police constables’ drink-related disciplinary offences.
