The Ruined Towns of Somaliland
Periodical reference to the 'Mysterious Ruined Cities of Somaliland', citing them as an 'unsolved riddle of Africa', have appeared in books and articles from time to time. The majority of these ruined towns lie in the west of British Somaliland, within the present administrative district of Borama, or across the frontier in the adjacent areas of Ethiopia, roughly half way between the ancient port of Zeila and the walled town of Harar. Account of Excavartions on Traprain Law in the Parish of Prestonkirk, County of Haddington, in 1915. With Description of the Animal Remains
The area enclosed within the main line of fortification amounts to about 32 acres and over at least a considerable portion of the hill there were four distinct periods of inhabitation during the Iron Age. It is suggested that the presence of a few Neolithic and Bronze Age artefacts but no pottery precludes occupation in those periods.
