In search of a relational theory
The author searched for empirically based theories and models with an interpersonal and relational focus. This search was conducted in spite of academic and professional psychology's general avoidance of theory building coupled with an exaggerated reliance on empirical evidence, producing a chaotic proliferation of models unrelated to each other. Requirements for any theory are verifiability, applicability, redundancy, and fruitfulness. Many two-…

An Experimental Paper-and-Pencil Test for Assessing Ego States
Three studies to assess the concurred validity of an experimental paper-and- pencil test to assess basic ego states were performed with teachers and undergraduates. In the first study, where this scale was used as pre-post-TA workshop basis, significant changes were obtained in the Parent and Adult scores. In the second study, scores on this test correlated significantly with various scales on Leary's Interpersonal Checklist. In the third study, …

Four Approaches to Family Facilitation
Implications of the Enrichment Model for Research and Training
The enrichment model using structured short-term instructions through the use of manuals shows some definite advantages for process and outcome research, theory testing, applicability to nonclinical families, and comparisons of structured versus unstructured and cognitive versus affective approaches. In training, the enrichment model can be used for a more active approach to undergraduate specialization, and graduate education. Examples of gradua…

Religiosity, Dogmatism, and Repression-Sensitization
I NTRODUCTION. The primary hypothesis of this study is that dogmatism and religiosity are positively correlated. Rokeach's definition of dogmatism, (a) relatively systems of beliefs and disbeliefs about reality, (b) organized around a central set of beliefs about absolute authority which in turn, (c) provides a framework for intolerance and qualified tolerance for (1956, p. 195), would appear to apply to religiosity. The latter also includes syst…
Transfer and Manifest Anxiety in Paired-Associate Learning
This investigation studied the relationship between anxiety level and transfer of training in a paired-associate learning situation. On the basis of conventional anxiety theory, it was predicted that high-anxiety Ss would show greater positive and greater negative transfer than low-anxiety Ss. To test this prediction 84 undergraduates were selected from the extremes of the anxiety continuum as measured by the Taylor Scale of Manifest Anxiety. The…
