    Open Access•Maria Chiara D''Argenio, Maria Chiara D'Argenio•BOOK•Indigenous Plots in Twenty-First…•2022•Citada por: 2

In this engaging book, Maria Chiara D’Argenio delineates a turn in recent Latin American filmmaking towards inter/cultural feature films made by non-Indigenous directors. Aimed at a global audience, but played by Indigenous actors, these films tell Indigenous stories in Indigenous languages. Over the last two decades, a growing number of Latin American films have screened the Indigenous experience by combining the local and the global in a way th…

    Maria Chiara D’argenio, Maria Chiara D'Argenio•ARTICLE•Postcolonial Studies•2018•Citada por: 4

This article analyses the politics and aesthetics of the depiction of the encounter between the West and the non-West in Ciro Guerra’s film El abrazo de la serpiente, examining how the film deconstructs colonialist imagery and discourses, and engages with the notion and cinematic representation of indigeneity. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the article identifies and discusses the strategies employed in the film to decolonise the category…

  • A Picturesque Modernity in 1920s Peru and Argentina

    Maria Chiara D’argenio, Maria Chiara D'Argenio•ARTICLE•Journal of Latin American…•2017•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 20

Looking at the interplay of the aesthetic and documentary value of photographs, I analyse how the reportages on Cuzco’s architecture and ruins contributed to the indigenista proposal of regional and national identity and how, in so doing, they articulated an idea of mode…

  • A Contemporary Andean Type

Maria Chiara D''Argenio, Maria Chiara D'Argenio•ARTICLE•Latin American and Caribbean…•2013•Referencias: 6

Claudia Llosa's films Madeinusa (2006) and La Teta Asustada (2009) are two interesting case studies of representation of indigenous people in contemporary cinema. Madeinusa tells about an isolated Andean village and its encounter with ‘modernity’; La Teta Asustada depicts Andean migrants who moved to the outskirts of Lima after the Peruvian 1980s Dirty War. Despite the several prizes the films were awarded (La Teta Asustada, for example, was awar…
