  • Is Hybrid Work the Best of Both Worlds? Evidence from a Field Experiment

Prithwiraj Choudhury, Christos A Makridis et al.•ARTICLE•The Review of Economics and…•2026

This paper reports causal evidence on how the extent of hybrid work—the number of days worked from home relative to days worked from office—affects employee attitudes and performance. Workers who spent around two days in the office each week on average self-reported greater work-life balance, more job satisfaction, and lower isolation from colleagues compared to workers who spent more or fewer days in the office. Employees in the intermediate hyb…

Open Access•Prithwiraj Choudhury, Ina Ganguli et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Development Economics•2023•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 2

We study migration in the right tail of the talent distribution using a novel dataset of Indian high school students taking the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), a college entrance exam used for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT). We find a high incidence of migration after students complete college: among the top 1000 scorers on the exam, 36% have migrated abroad, rising to 62% for the top 100 scorers. We next document t…

  • Return migration and geography of innovation in MNEs

    Prithwiraj Choudhury•ARTICLE•Journal of Economic Geography•2015•Citada por: 13•Referencias: 6

I study whether return migrants facilitate knowledge production by local employees working for them at geographically distant research and development (R&D) locations. Using unique personnel and patenting data for 1315 employees at the Indian R&D center of a Fortune 500 technology firm, I exploit a natural experiment where the assignment of managers for newly hired college graduates is mandated by rigid HR rules and is uncorrelated to observable …

  • Charting Dynamic Trajectories

    Open Access•Prithwiraj Choudhury, Tarun Khanna•ARTICLE•The Business History Review•2014•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 16

In this article, we provide a synthesizing framework that we call the “dynamic trajectories” framework to study the evolution of multinational enterprises (MNEs) in host countries over time. We argue that a change in the policy environment in a host country presents an MNE with two sets of interrelated decisions. First, the MNE has to decide whether to enter, exit, or stay in the host country at the onset of each policy epoch; second, conditional…
