Regional Differences of Dental Microwear on the Occlusal Surface of an M2 from Neolithic Japan
Regional differences of dental microwear among four small areas on the heavily worn occlusal surface of a mandibular M2 of an adult male from Neolithic Japan were investigated using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The M2 specimen was cast using a high-resolution epoxy resin under low pressure for SEM, and the cast specimen was sputter-coated with gold. 畑中(はたけなか)カメ棺弥生人骨は,北部,西北部九州から熊本平野を介して分布する弥生カメ棺分布域の南限に当る熊本県宇土市畑中遺跡から出土し,弥生時代中期の成人女性のものと推定される。同カメ棺弥生人は短頭型,過広顔型,弱い突顎と眉上の隆起を示し, PENROSE の形態距離は,熊本縄文人とは僅か0.2145,土井ケ浜弥生人とは最も遠く1.7165,西北九州弥生人とは1.3902,熊本現代人とは1.4034と比較的遠いなどの結果を示すことから,熊本縄文人に極めて近い顔貌を呈することが確認された。身長は藤井の式から146.6cm と推定された
A Protohistoric Female Skeleton of the Keyholeshaped (Square Front Circular Rear) Mound in Mukonoda, Uto City. Kumamoto Prefecture
An anatomical and anthropological study on the female skeleton of the Mukonoda keyholeshaped (square front circular rear) mound was made. The mound is 88.5m long. The cranium showed not only the hyperleptoprosop type, but also the hypsikonch type of the orbit. The author made a comparative anatomical identification of a humerus of the dugong excavated from Urasoe shellmound with Ichiki type potteries (late Jomon period) in Okinawa island. Japanese-American hybrid children, 60 males and 31 females, were measured repeatedly over a period from 6 to 15 years of age. Their growth was compared with that of the parental groups, Americans and Japanese. In general, White hybrids had longer trunk, shorter leg, narrower shoulder and broader pelvis than Negro hybrids, reflecting the difference between American Whites and Negroes.
