  • Middle- and upper-Holocene woodland history in central Moravia (Czech Republic) reveals biases of pollen and anthracological analysis

    Open Access•Jan Novák, Vojtěch Abraham et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 29

The aims of this article are, first, to investigate the middle- and upper-Holocene woodland history along the altitudinal gradient between the lowlands and uplands of Central Europe (190–550 m a.s.l.) and, second, to outline possible biases inherent in the charcoal record based on a comparison with the pollen record and its known biases. Our anthracological data set contains 42,547 determinations made in 120 charcoal samples taken at 69 sites. Th…

  • Biotic response to rapid climatic changes during the Late Glacial

    Open Access•Brigitta Ammann, U Eicher et al.•ARTICLE•Geographica Helvetica•2008•Referencias: 1

Organisms can respond to rapid climatic changes in three ways: 1) adaptation by evolution, affecting physiology and morphology), 2) migration and population dynamics including biogeographical changes) and 3) extinction local or global). Here, the focus is on examples of the second type. Organisms, whether algae, trees, or animals, find their ecological niches in a multi- dimensional space of gradients such as temperature winter, summer, means or …
