  • Brief report

Open Access•Ann Marie Martin, Jan Blacher et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Education•2024

Background The UCLA PEERS program has been studied using predominantly White and affluent populations. As autistic teens and their parents are represented across cultures, it is vitally important that interventions are tailored to their needs–whether that be linguistically or with respect to their cultural practices. Thus, the current qualitative study explored whether culturally and linguistically diverse families (primarily Latine) participatin…

  • Virtual Simulations to Train Social Workers for Competency-Based Learning

Open Access•E A Baker, Angélique Jenney•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Work Education•2023

To successfully respond to the increasing needs and demands of clients, social workers must be equipped with a broad range of knowledge and skills. Due to limitations with traditional in-person methods, the field is considering virtual simulations to enhance students’ knowledge and competency-based skills. Virtual simulations are a method of using a computer/software/the Internet to teach knowledge and competency-based skills. In this article, we…

    Open Access•Haylee K DeLuca Bishop, E A Baker et al.•ARTICLE•Emerging Adulthood•2022

The current study examines the impact of perceived academic support from closest same-sex friends and romantic partners on two indicators of academic success: GPA (reported by the registrar’s office) and student engagement. Utilizing a longitudinal, daily-diary design, we investigate whether perceived academic support from closest same-sex friends and perceived academic support from romantic partners are unique constructs. Longitudinal path model…

  • Using a Socio-Ecological Framework to Understand Romantic Relationship Satisfaction Among Emerging Adults During the Covid-19 Pandemic

    Open Access•Jennifer M Figueroa, Haylee K DeLuca Bishop et al.•ARTICLE•Emerging Adulthood•2022

The formation and maintenance of satisfying romantic relationships, a developmental milestone for many emerging adults, has been challenged by the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, the impact of COVID-19 stress on relationship satisfaction has not been explored within the context of individual and relationship factors. Guided by a socio-ecological framework, this study used a longitudinal design to investigate the impact of individua…

  • Support seeking and support transactions with college students' romantic partners

    Open Access•E A Baker, Haylee K DeLuca Bishop et al.•ARTICLE•Personal Relationships•2021•Referencias: 8

College is a stressful time for students and social support can help students cope with stress. However, research investigating how college students' romantic relationships might serve as a daily source of support around academic stressors and academic outcomes is limited. This study investigated whether romantic partners are a source of daily academic support during times of academic stress (midterms), and whether satisfaction with academic supp…

  • Assessing Stress in Pregnancy and Postpartum

    Open Access•Irena Stepanikova, E A Baker et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Health Journal•2020

SLE-based methods capture an aspect of perinatal stress not adequately assessed by EPDS. Combination of psychological distress measures and SLE-based measures is optimal in predicting EBD of the child. Stress measures based on SLE are suitable for early pregnancy, while self-reports of depressive symptoms may perform better in postpartum

Negotiating conflict in healthy ways is key to adolescents' social functioning. This paper examines interpersonal negotiation strategies (INS) (a developmental framework for navigating conflict) across three different contexts (friend, romantic, and parent) in a sample of 212 Canadian mid-adolescents. Adolescents were asked how they would deal with a hypothetical conflict in each context. Adolescents were most advanced at negotiating conflict in …

  • The Push and Pull of Self-Managing Mild COPD

    Open Access•Peter A Coventry, Amy Blakemore et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Health Research•2019•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 44

Health coaching is a novel population intervention to support self-management but it is untested in people with mild disease. People with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with mild dyspnea are a population excluded from supported self-management and whose illness might progress without intervention. We explored participants' experiences about how health coaching motivated behavior change. Interviews were conducted with 21 intervention and 10…

  • ‘I Think It's Really Great that Someone Is Listening to Us …‘

John Hillcoat, Karen Forge et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Education Research•1995

This paper presents a qualitative study of the environmental concerns and attitudes of young people. The study arose when it was recognised that a quantitative study on youth environmental knowledge and attitude in which we were engaged could be enriched through qualitative research. A pilot qualitative study was conducted using focus group interviews with young people aged 15‐17 years in Brisbane, Australia. The findings of this study are report…
