Early Middle Ages Dwelling on the Pomortsevo-2 Settlement (Kuznetsk Hollow)
The article deals the results of the Pomortsevo-2 settlement excavations on the left bank part of the river Inya basin in the south-east of Kuznetsk hollow (the Belovo municipal district). One of the results of the field work is a dwelling with fragments of burnt construction containing 2 archaeologically complete Early Middle Ages vessels. The Aksai-1 complex (to the studying of ancient anthropomorphic statues and deer stones of Central Kazakhstan)
The article introduces the Aksai-1 complex of three “cult stones” (Aksai valley, Karaganda region, Kazakhstan), which includes an ancient anthropomorphic statue featuring a human face image at the top of a monolith, and a deer stone of the common Eurasian type. We describe an unusual Old Turkic statue at Borili (Ulytau, Central Kazakhstan), distinguished by a peculiar position of hands and by an unusual object––a pickaxe held instead of a vessel. Stylistic features and possible prototypes among actual pickaxessuggest that the statue dates to 7th to early 8th centuries AD. The article introduces a peculiar Old Turkic statue from Borili, discovered in the hills of Ulytau, Central Kazakhstan. It differs from other Old Turkic statues in that both arms are down and the hands are on the weapons––a sword and a battle pickaxe, the latter replacing the traditional vessel.
