  • Paleoecology, Subsistence, and 14 C Chronology of the Eurasian Caspian Steppe Bronze Age

    Open Access•N I Shishlina, E P Zazovskaya et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2009•Citada por: 15•Referencias: 6

Combined analysis of paleoenvironment, 13 C, 15 N, and 14 C in bone, including paired dating of human bone and terrestrial materials (herbivore bone, wood, charcoal, and textile) has been performed on many samples excavated from Russian kurgan graves. The data can be used for dietary reconstruction, and reservoir corrections for 14 C dating of human bone. The latter is essential for an accurate construction of chronologies for the Eneolithic and …

  • The Catacomb Cultures of the North-West Caspian Steppe

    Open Access•N I Shishlina, J Van Der Plicht et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2007•Citada por: 21•Referencias: 11

For the Bronze Age Catacomb cultures of the North-West Caspian steppe area in Russia, there is a conflict between the traditional relative archaeological chronology and the chronology based on radiocarbon dates. We show that this conflict can be explained largely by the fact that most dates have been obtained on human bone material and are subject to 14 C reservoir effects. This was demonstrated by comparing paired 14 C dates derived from human a…

  • Radiocarbon chronology of the Kalmykia Catacomb culture of the west Eurasian steppe

    Open Access•Natalia Shishlina, N I Shishlina et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2000•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 4

New calibration studies of burials from the Catacomb culture of western Eurasia enable better understanding of the spread and development of different Bronze Age traditions

  • Problems in Radiocarbon Dating of Soils

    Open Access•O A Chichagova, A E Cherkinsky•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1993•Citada por: 6•Referencias: 2

We discuss our progress in three principal applications of 14 C dating of recent and fossil soils: 1) new methods; 2) problems of interpreting 14 C soil data ( e.g., 14 C age of soils, age of soils, duration of humus formation, rate of carbon cycling); and 3) 14 C analysis of soil organic matter (OM) in pedology and paleogeography ( e.g., soil genesis and evolution, humus formation and OM metamorphosis, geochronology and stratigraphy of Late Plei…
